ECWA Super 8 Coverage

Coverage courtesy of our friends at The Wrestling Estate:

Holliday Wins Super 8 Tournament

Posted On :  Published By : John Corrigan

“The Most Marketable Man in Professional Wrestling” can now back up his self-appointed moniker, joining an elite group of stars such as Christopher Daniels, Tommaso Ciampa and Jerry Lynn.

In one of the biggest upsets in tournament history, Richard Holliday went the distance last Saturday and took home the Super 8 trophy. The crowd was stunned as the previously reserved technician jumped Chase Owens from behind to start the finals, brawling all over the United Asbury Methodist Church in New Castle, Delaware. The ECWA faithful rallied behind Owens, clinging for hope as he kicked out after Holliday hit his finisher, a quicker version of the Olympic Slam. Unfortunately, he couldn’t kick out after two more, and Holliday was declared victorious.

It was a valiant effort for the Bullet Club member, who seamlessly changed demeanor throughout the evening. In his quarter-final bout with Mike Law, Owens received much fanfare as dueling “Too Sweet”/“PCA” chants rocked the building. A veteran of ECWA, and thefirst man announced for the tournament, Law carried a huge chip on his shoulder as he pulled out all the stops to beat the incoming international star. Exchanging hard elbows that sounded like gun shots, both men emptied their arsenals, leaving everything they had on the mat. Ultimately, it was a Kinshasa to the back of Law’s head, followed by a package piledriver that gave Owens the win.

Afterwards, the “Crown Jewel” extended his hand to Law in a sign of respect for what was an incredible bout, but the World-1 Wrestling TV Champion pushed him away.

In the semi-finals, Owens met fellow fan favorite Ty Awesome, the least experienced competitor in the tournament. After dazzling the fans as well as Smiley with a frankensteiner, shining wizard and 450 splash in the opener, Awesome was riding an unmatched wave of momentum. Despite his inexperience, he outwrestled Owens in the beginning of their bout, frustrating the veteran. Owens finally snapped, yanking Awesome’s neck between the ropes, almost decapitating the high flyer. The ground and pound continued as people of all ages rooted for Awesome to fire back, their cheers eventually lifting him to his feet as he taunted Owens, asking for more of his signature elbow strikes.

Feeding off the adrenaline of the crowd, Awesome gave Owens a dose of his own medicine, telling him to suck it. Owens smirked, retaliating with a superkick. But Awesome kicked out of every pin attempt, absorbing more punishment than humanly possible, refusing to stay down. Finally, the plucky underdog attempted another frankensteiner, but Owens hung on and drove him to the mat with a Styles Clash off the second rope.

Afterwards, Owens extended his hand yet again, and Awesome reciprocated in front of the adoring crowd. Emerging victorious in defeat, Awesome received a standing ovation, truly recognized as the breakout star of the 22nd annual Super 8.

In non-tournament action, every ECWA champion put their title on the line in a 10-person tag team match. The women kicked things off as Women’s Champion Christina Marie exchanged blows with Damaris, while the rest of the champions remained outside the ring, avoiding any tags and potentially, the loss of their gold. Hoping for easy pickings, Heavyweight Champion Azrieal finally tagged in, but came face to face with arch rival Joe Gacy. Azrieal quickly tagged out and then mayhem broke out as everybody entered the ring.

In the end, One Mean Team looked to put away Tahir James, but Justin Pusser got crotched on the turnbuckle. James slingshotted Brian Johnson into Frankie Pickard’s boot, and Johnson was unable to reach Pusser’s hand for a tag before the three count. After months of chasing the Tag Team Champions, DOA finally struck gold, much to the fans’ delight.

Review of all 8 participants in the 22nd Annual ECWA Super 8 Tournament

ECWA Super 8 Tournament set for Sat April 21

The ECWA is officially gearing up for the biggest show of the year! That’s right indy wrestling fans it’s time once again for the biggest tournament in all of independent wrestling… the Super 8 Tournament! It’s hard to believe this will be year 22 of the tournament. When Jim Kettner invented the show back in 1997 there’s no way him or anyone else could guess the influence and importance it holds. The legacy of this tournament is felt every year… wrestlers from all over the country tell how they read about it in PWI magazine for years. How they too wanted to compete one day to try to win it. How it built the careers of so many that maybe… just maybe a good showing could build theirs too. It’s hard to argue why so many are desperate to be a participant every year. WWE stars like Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Scotty 2 Hotty, Bobby Roode, ROH/NJPW stars like Christopher Daniels, Amazing Red, Rocky Romero, and Austin Aries have ALL got their first major exposure in the Super 8. Those men were barely known out of their home promotions. However, after winning OR just taking part in the tournament they skyrocketed to the household names you all know today. Daniel Bryan even mentioned in his book how important it was to building his career in his book! That’s an incredible amount of history, prestige, and honor that now falls onto the backs of the 8 participants in this year’s tournament. This could literally lead to them to insane heights in professional wrestling!

Speaking of the field of 8, there was a special Spotlight series done on ECWA social media telling you a brief overview of each participant. Here you can read those write ups about all 8 men… you’ll be able to see the kind of wrestlers they are and start to think about who will take it all home on Saturday April 2, 2018! Ladies and gentlemen, the Super 8 Class of 2018:

TY AWESOME:

Pro wrestling is full of underdog stories and there is none bigger in Super 8 Tournament history than Ty Awesome. He comes into this tournament as the least known, least experienced, and least heralded. But that’s just fine by Ty. Learning his basics from ROH’s Briscoe Brothers… then learning under Sonny Deeds at the Spinebusters Wrestling Academy, he’s carved out his own path in pro wrestling through hard work and patience. He’s got a unique high flying style that is all boom or bust, sometimes crash or burn. Normally, that style doesn’t lead to success. However, somehow Ty has used this to his advantage. He’s garnered fan love and respect from the locker room putting it all on the line! He’ll truly fly all around the ring with a variety of aerial attacks… most impressive are his moonsaults, ranas, and his trademark 450 Splash. The fact he’s least known helps him… his opponents won’t know what hit them!

BOLT BRADY:

The ‘Supercharged Superstar’ brings some of the most unique, exciting wrestling offense you’ll ever see! Trained by Luke Hawx, Mr. Mexico II, and Ray Campos, Bolt is the most experienced participant in this year’s tournament. With that experience comes knowledge… making him a dangerous ring general! He’ll be able to outsmart his opponents and see things coming before they happen. He’s the true definition of past Super 8 competitors. He’s able to out power and quite literally out jump everyone else in the field! His southern style lends itself to lucha and is nearly impossible to counter once the action heats up. He’ll look for shocking, high risk maneuvers that get quick pins. Don’t blink or might miss him hitting his sky high dropkicks or flying cross bodies! Don’t be shocked if he makes even simple wrestling moves look that much more flashy and better than you’ve ever seen them! He just might be able to shock everyone and show why he’s a main player for years to come.

RICHARD HOLLIDAY:

‘The Most Marketable Man in Professional Wrestling’ is entering this year’s Super 8 Tournament win tons of buzz… according to him and his PR machine. Richard Holliday is out to make a name for himself… but not before you hear about his brand first. His brand is kind of hard to ignore. He was trained by respected ring veteran Paul Roma! While not much of a high flyer himself, he loves to ground and pound of faster, more aerial opponents. His ring intelligence will be an excellent foil to the rest of the field as he looks to weaken his opponents body part by body part. His cocky, arrogant attitude has made himself into possibly ‘New York’s Finest Asset’. He’s one of the smartest, quick thinking men in this year’s field. He’s going to be a huge problem to guys expecting him to be all bark and no bite.

CHASE OWENS:

The Bullet Club is invading the ECWA! ‘The Crown Jewel’ Chase Owens is quite possibly the most famous, accomplished wrestler to ever enter a Super 8. Trained by the legendary Ricky Morton (from the RnR Express), he has quietly become one of the most respected junior heavyweights in the world today. He’s technically sound, incredibly resourceful, and able to counter any style any wrestler throws at him. With his frequent tours with New Japan, he’s developed the Japanese Strong Style of wrestling… meaning he’ll be the most creative wrestler in this tournament. He’s also accustomed to winning high stakes championships… Chase has won the NWA JR Heavyweight Title 3 times! It’s easy to see why he was chosen a member of Bullet Club by his friends and NJPW powerhouses G.O.D. and Bad Luck Fale.

ANTHONY GREENE:

Straight out of the 80’s with his trademark track jacket, zubaz, sweatband, and fanny pack comes the ‘Retrosexual’ Anthony Greene. This eccentric man loves flamboyantly showcase his personality by ‘Workin Marks and Breakin Hearts.’ However, do NOT take him at face value. He’s an incredibly underrated JR Heavyweight on the brink of a breakout. Trained by the scrappy underdog Spike Dudley, Greene has made a name for himself by pulling out all kinds of creative offense out of nowhere. He’s a more than capable aerial assassin and is more technically sound than given credit for. He could be the dark horse to win it all! What he lacks in size he more than makes up for in ring smarts and aggression. He even recently had a tremendous showing in Chikara’s Young Lions Cup… so tournaments are kind of his thing!

MIKE LAW:

The biggest little man in professional wrestling is ‘Colossal’ Mike Law… trained by New York wrestling legend ‘Lowlife’ Louis Ramos, Law has made a name for himself by sporting a rare combination of speed and power. He’s able to go high risk, but often times does incredible power aerial moves that are devastating. When he isn’t busy running his mouth, Law really is an incredible talent in the ring that has been overlooked for years. He can go toe to toe with any man in the ring regardless of style or ability. However, sometimes his arrogant attitude and assumed ‘small man complex’ make him a showoff… recently taking to carrying a giant barbell to the ring to show just how strong he is! He’s also just as known for having longtime friend, ally, and PCA cohort AJ Pan ringside for his matches. That’s puts him at an advantage against this field… Pan is definitely a wildcard! Law is looking to prove everyone wrong and show why is one of the best little men to ever do it.

SMILEY:

From the office of Dr. Earnest Price at Fairchild Asylum comes Smiley ‘The Psycho Lucha’! He’s been given this name for the borderline insane style of offense he employs. While creative with his variety of splashes, ranas, and literally anything else he can invent, Smiley loves to hurt himself just as much as his opponents! He’ll look to play mind games just as much as out wrestle the field. Making him a scary opponent to face! Trained in the traditional high flying Mexican Lucha style by former Super 8 competitor Amazing Red at the House of Glory, he’s the least known about… not by fans but by his opponents. He’s rarely spoken since his debut! Despite that, he’s a perfect fit for this tournament as it’s often fast paced, hectic wrestling that suits him very well… this might be the only time being crazy will pay off! There’s no telling what this man will do to walk out with that trophy!

CHEESEBURGER:

Trained by respected vets Delirious and Mike Quakenbush (another former Super 8 competitor) at the ROH Dojo, Cheeseburger enters the tournament as the most popular and well known man. He’s almost always a fan favorite in any promotion he works for… but mainly for ROH and New Japan. Despite his small stature, he’s incredibly scrappy and literally will never give up no matter the odds stacked against him. He’s quite literally the common man’s underdog! He’ll throw everything he has at every opponent from punches, kicks, super kicks, and aerial moves. He’ll send them reeling not expecting him to have that kind of fighting spirit! He’s coming off two very impressive final 2 appearances in the New Japan Rumbles from the last two Wrestle Kingdom events. He’s ready to fight through this field of 8 en route to shedding the underdog label forever!

There you have it folks! The Super 8 Class of 2018! Each man brings something unique to the table. Each man has the undying desire to hoist that trophy above his head. Each man is willing to do anything to win. Which one of these 8 men will make history? Which one of these men will become the next star that could appear on your TV? Find out on April 21!

WWE Star Booker T appears at ECWA in the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ Sat March 24

ECWA made a big gamble on expanding its territory, and luckily, it paid off.

After debuting in Atlantic City in November, the longest-running independent wrestling promotion in the United States is making The Showboat its permanent home. Aside from the world-renowned Super 8 tournament taking place in New Castle, Delaware, in April, ECWA will be holding monthly events in the Bourbon Room, formerly known as the House of Blues.

“The sound system is amazing and it’s going to be pay-per-view production quality,” says ECWA promoter Mike Tartaglia.

The new era kicks off this Saturday with ECWA Joker’s Wild, featuring top talent in the Northeast indie scene as well as WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. The five-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion will be signing autographs before the event and according to Tartaglia, he’ll be involved in some capacity during the show.

It will be a night of championship action as all ECWA titles will be defended, including Azrieal defending the ECWA Heavyweight Championship against grand slam champion Kekoa in the main event. “That’s my pick for match of the night,” Tartaglia says.

The odds will be stacked against Joe Gacy as the “Pro Wrestling Maniac” challenges Mid-Atlantic Champion Chris Wylde, who will be accompanied by Joel Blackhart and The Draw. Last time ECWA came to AC, Gacy was screwed out of the Heavyweight Championship, so this time he’s hellbent on walking out with a few extra chips in his pocket.

Speaking of The Draw, members One Mean Team (Brian Johnson & Justin Pusser) will be defending the Tag Team Titles against DOA (Frankie Pickard & Tahir James) in a rematch from January. “That was the hottest match on the show,” Tartaglia says. “Frankie has improved a lot since he started with us, never missing an ECWA Showcase show at our Pro Wrestling Academy. And Tahir is definitely Super 8 material.”

In a No DQ match, newly crowned Women’s Champion Damaris will take on Christina Marie. “Christina is a powerhouse,” Tartaglia says. “She is getting booked all over the place and is a name to look out for.”

In other action, Breaker Morant will face Adam Chandler in a rematch from January. There will also be a 10-man tag team match pitting ECWA legend Mr. Ooh La La with Vinny Talotta, newcomer El Guerrero, Super 8 participant Ty Awesome and Tommy Bowie against Mike Law, Aaron Bradley, Killian McMurphy, Damon Dark and Rick Rekon.

Of course, you can’t forget the special attraction: Shockwave the Robot goes one on one with Jean-Jean LeBon. “This match happened in 2012,” Tartaglia says. “You talk about hardcore? There were knives, there were guns.”

ECWA Joker’s Wild comes to The Showboat in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on March 24.

Admission to Booker T’s seminar before the show costs $75. Email ecwaprowrestling1@yahoo.com to reserve your spot.

ECWA returns Home Saturday January 20 in New Castle, Delaware

ECWA returns to Delaware Saturday January 20

There’s an old saying that says you can’t go home again… but luckily here at ECWA we don’t believe that! For decades, the state of Delaware was home. ECWA had its humble beginnings in places like Elsmere, DE and Wilmington, DE in buildings like the Boys & Girls Club and St Matthews Parrish. Eventually, it made its way to Newark, DE where it would stay for almost a decade before now owner Mike Tartaglia bought the company in 2010. Pro wrestling has taken the company all over the East… numerous cities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania on top of its lineage from Delaware. Woodbury Height, NJ has been ECWA’s home base for some time now… but management never forgot all the fans who made us a success in Delaware. So after a lengthy absence, it’s happening! ECWA returns to Delaware on Saturday January 20, 2018! We return to the United Asbury Methodist Church in New Castle, DE. This new building has become the scene of ECWA’s base in Delaware whenever we get a chance to return!

It’s the New Year! That means new beginnings for everyone around the world. That also means new beginnings for all the men and women that call ECWA home. The event is aptly named ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ and it is a night filled with some of the best independent pro wrestling you’ll find anywhere.

We have grudge matches as old rivalries rage on…. Championship defenses as the champions desperately fend off all the new faces in the company… we have debuts… and we do it all better than anyone! Delaware won’t know what hit it. Don’t believe me? Let’s take a brief look at the night’s scheduled card:

ECWA Heavyweight Championship

Azrieal w/ AJ Pan (c ) vs. ‘The Pro Wrestling Maniac’ Joe Gacy

Azrieal has become a true fighting champion defeating all the top names in ECWA over the course of two title reigns. However, coming up on his heels is the immensely popular Joe Gacy. He’s out to take what he feels is his. In Atlantic City, Azrieal defended against Gacy… and just when it looked like we were going to crown a new champion a masked Santa Claus (who may or may not have been rival Sean Carr) attacked him behind the referees back allowing Az to retain. Now, ECWA management fixes that wrong. Azrieal will defend against Joe Gacy once again… and this time no one can stop a new champion possibly being crowned.

ECWA Mid Atlantic Championship- Delaware Dream Match

‘ECWA’s Cinderella Man’ Chris Wylde w/ Joel Blackhart ( c) vs. Ty Awesome

Why is this a Delaware Dream Match? Both men have unrivaled popularity for various companies in the state. And both are well known to almost undefeatable in Delaware. This makes this must watch. Wylde is making his first ever title defense after literally enlisting his ‘Draw’ faction teammates to beat down former champion Breaker Morant so badly Wylde easily pinned him. Ty Awesome, one of Breaker’s many allies in the locker room, is not standing for this. He’s decided to end ‘The Draw’ before it begins and plans on taking the Mid Atlantic title almost as quickly as Wylde won it. Can he overcome the numbers game?

ECWA Tag Team Championship

One Mean Team (Brian Johnson & Justin Pusser) w/ Miss Jasmine ( c) vs. ‘God of War’ Frankie Picard & Tahir James

The cofounders of ‘The Draw’ have absolutely dominated the ECWA tag team division since their debut at an Academy Showcase a few months ago. With the hard hitting, nasty Pusser backing up the flamboyant Johnson they have been nearly unstoppable. However, they walk right into two men who are best friends in the wrestling world. They’ve tagged together beautifully numerous times now. They did train together coming up in the business. And now they look for gold to prove their worth. Picard is deceivably agile, and the high-flying Tahir James is a star on the rise…. Putting them together you get a deadly one-two combo of power and speed. One Mean Team might have met their match move for move this time. Can the champions overcome two guys who just may be hungrier than they are?

ECWA Women’s Championship

Damaris ( c) vs. 2017 Women’s Super 8 Participant Christina Marie

In a shocking turn of events, the ECWA Women’s Championship was vacated just last month! And it honestly was anyone’s guess who would be battling to find a new champion. Enter the young rookie Damaris. Damaris has impressed everyone in management with her quickly growing talent and ability. She’s even gotten a huge endorsement from indie wrestling legend Tony Stetson. She won the championship after defeating ‘The Draw’s’ Miss Jasmine. And never has a new champion faced this big a first title defense. Christina Marie comes back to ECWA still fuming over her first-round exit from the ECWA Women’s Super 8. The powerhouse is known for her power but can fly like a luchador if needed and she felt she was the class of the tournament. Now she has her eyes set on the championship that she should have won in the first place! Damaris is incredibly talented and will one day be a top star in women’s wrestling… but can she stop the rampage of Christina Marie?

GRUDGE MATCH-BREAKER’s REVENGE?

Breaker Morant vs. ‘The Draw’s Adam Chandler w/ Joel Blackhart and Miss Jasmine

Remember when we mentioned earlier ‘The Draw’ basically gang attacked Breaker Morant until he could no longer fight back? And this caused him to lose his Mid Atlantic Championship? The man leading the attack was Adam Chandler. Chandler and Morant have had a long-standing rivalry since Chandler’s Academy Showcase days. And it’s boiled over finally! Chandler is big, strong and probably the strongest man in ECWA currently. However, Breaker Morant is on a warpath for revenge! The crafty veteran is out for blood on every member of ‘The Draw!’ And he plans on starting with the one man he feels is the most responsible for losing his championship. But it won’t be easy. Chandler is no slouch. Plus, you never know if someone at ringside will get involved… or worse from somewhere in the arena. That’s been ‘The Draw’s calling card. Can Breaker overcome the odds once again and get his revenge?

GRUDGE MATCH #2

‘The Hitman for Hire’ Mr. Grim vs. ‘The Hotlanta Hustler’ Marcus Waters

This is certainly a battle of two powerful men! Just before the December ECWA show, these two battled for the first time at the ECWA Academy Showcase. As the match went on it became increasingly clear no punches were being pulled. And that these strong-willed men were battling each other to see who was the baddest and strongest. And it got real personal, real fast! Over the weeks, words have flown over social media. Then just last week at an Academy Showcase at the ECWA Wrestling Academy, they fought all over the building with no clear winner. It became so bad that the entire locker room emptied to try to pull them apart. And they weren’t very successful. Mr. Grim has laid down the challenge. Time to see who’s the best. And he is getting a nasty, angry Marcus Waters to deal with… did he bite off more than he can chew?

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH

2018 ECWA Super 8 Participant ‘Colossal’ Mike Law vs. Meisure Ooh La La vs. ‘The Mood killer’ Robbie Radke

This is a battle of some of the most colorful men in ECWA right now… Mike Law is indeed the first participant in this year’s Super 8 Class. He’s been riding high after a few victories in a row acting even more arrogant than usual. Almost more ‘Colossal’ in attitude. Ooh La La himself is also riding a win streak and wants to get back on the title track after not too long ago losing the tag team titles. And of course, not caring about what either of them want, want to achieve, or what he must do to win is Robbie Radke, the self-proclaimed ‘Mood killer’ who loves to rain on everyone’s parade…. Especially the fans. Will Robbie Radke continue to ruin everyone’s fun? Will Ooh La La once again dance his way into the hearts of the fans in attendance? Or will Mike Law continue his tear towards a run in the Super 8 Tournament?

HUGE DEBUT

‘The Shamrock Shooter’ Killian McMurphy vs. the debuting Sonny Kiss

This is certainly one of those odd matchups that on paper favors one side… but there’s always more to see. McMurphy is in a bad mood, even more than usual, after a recent string of losses in matches where he mostly dominated he’s out to hurt someone. Enter a new face in the ECWA in Sonny Kiss! Kiss is known for the being one of the most entertaining, flamboyant, androgynous, and colorful wrestlers in the country. What he may lack in size and power, he more than makes up in savvy. Kiss is known to use tactics that unnerve more serious competitors and lure them into a false sense of security. However, he is running into an angry Irishmen who’s in no mood for games. Will the ‘Shamrock Shooter’ finally put away a victory? Or will the crafty Sonny Kiss make a huge splash in his debut?

And there you have it! The night is full of interesting and important matches to the landscape of ECWA. It’s got a little bit of everything for every kind of wrestling fan: kids, adults, comedy lovers, pure wrestling, and much more! When ECWA comes back to Delaware you know it’s going to be a party! Please join us to celebrate the New Year… here’s all the info you’ll need for the event. ECWA is ringing in 2018 the right way:

Azrieal’s second title reign with the heavyweight championship has already been marred by controversy. He scored a questionable victory over Joe Gacy at the Showboat in Atlantic City just last week… however, he won’t be facing just any challenger. Kekoa is one of the most legendary wrestlers in ECWA history. He’s won every single championship the company offers and has even appeared in 2 Super 8 Tournaments. But he’s out to get what he never lost. Kekoa was ECWA Heavyweight Champion back in 2015 before he tore his ACL defending it… and so he had to relinquish the title. He never lost it and wants it back! Azrieal and AJ Pan are on high alert as they may be the biggest threat to Az in either one of his championship reigns so far. Two of the most talented men in ECWA history do battle!

ECWA Mid Atlantic Championship

NO DQ- NO COUNTOUTS

Breaker Morant ( c ) vs. Chris Wylde w/ Joel Blackhart

These two have done battle for years now in the ECWA. Once upon a time Breaker led an evil team of invaders called the Blackhearts against the ECWA… and Chris Wylde led the opposing team defending the company. They fought tough and nail and quite literally all over the arena for years, including a memorable fall off the ECWA entrance scaffolding. Now the tables have turned… Breaker has been a fighting champion defending against all comers. However, Wylde believes he has been over taken by Breaker as ECWA’s “Chosen One” and is out for blood. Now Wylde leads a team of evil invaders called The Draw, who are hell bent on proving they are the reason for the companies success. Breaker is ready for a fight. Last week at the Showboat their wasn’t a clear winner and both men got counted out after they destroyed each other all over the floor. ECWA management has decided now we’ll find out who the better man is with NO DQ’s and No Countouts. Could The Draw become involved?

ECWA Tag Team Championship

One Mean Team (Brian Johnson & Justin Pusser) w/ Miss Jasmine ( c) vs. Ty Awesome & Tommy Bowie

One Mean Team have quickly established themselves as the most brutal, flamboyant yet tough as nails tag team that the ECWA has seen in many years. While Johnson dances… Pusser hurts. It’s a deadly combo no one has been to overcome so far. When you add in their fiery companion Miss Jasmine it’s next to impossible to do battle with them. But they face a new team that will excite fans and quite possibly be the most aerial tandem we’ve ever seen. Two high flyers… Ty Awesome and Tommy Bowie… team together for the first time. But don’t let that fool you that they might be overmatches. Ty Awesome has quickly proved he’s a star on the rise in the company… his wide array of devastating aerial attacks has beaten some tough opponents. And all it takes is a second for him to land one. Bowie is making his debut… however he’s impressed in the Academy Showcase shows with his hard hitting style that perfectly compliments Awesome’s offense. They could be a formidable new addition to the ECWA tag scene. Will One Mean Team overlook the young tag team across the ring from them? Or will a split second high impact move crown new tag champions?

ECWA Women’s Championship

Karen Q ( c ) vs. Allie Recks

Karen Q has been red hot lately! She has dominated her appearances on ROH’s Women of Honor and just won the 2017 ECWA Women’s Super 8! Needless to say she’s the fastest rising women’s star on the indies right now. But she’s not facing a slouch on December 2… She’s facing a fellow Super 8 competitor in the talented Allie Recks! Recks put on an impressive display in the tournament before losing to a much more experienced Deonna Purrazzo. The fans asked for her return after getting behind her and when better than the present? Karen is out to continue her title reign after finally defeating Purrazzo for good last week at the Showboat. Fresh off of Women’s title wins for other companies Allie Recks is as confident as she’s ever been! She’s hungry to keep proving herself after coming back from a devastating knee injury… and after not winning the Super 8 you can bet she’s out to go toe to toe with the woman who won the entire thing! Will Karen Q continue to show her ascension to the top of the indies is just the beginning? Or will Allie Recks prove she is the true rising star in ECWA?

GRUDGE MATCH #1

CHAIN MATCH

‘Pro Wrestling Manic’ Joe Gacy vs. ‘Hybrid’ Sean Carr

Gacy and Carr absolutely hate each other! Ever since the Super 8 tournament when Carr felt the need to attack Gacy with a super kick, these two have been on a collision course. Just two months ago, Gacy and Carr decided to settle their differences in a highly awaited match… but Sean Carr just couldn’t let it end that way. Just as Joe Gacy was gaining the upper hand he tried to run away from the fight. As Gacy gave chase, Carr threw an errant super kick that hit a fan! It was the most shocking moment of 2017 in ECWA! It infuriated ECWA officials, most notably senior referee John Finegan. As such… Sean Carr was suspended for 70 days! Finally, the heat could die down. Joe Gacy was awarded  a championship opportunity at the Showboat vs. Azrieal for his handling of the fan situation. And it was going great! Joe Gacy was literally about to make the winning pinfall when a masked Santa Claus entered the ring and hit Gacy with a chain. Was it Sean Carr in disguise? No one could tell. And as the referee recovered from an accidental hit moments before, Gacy was pinned… so on Saturday we get another brutal match in the saga of Gacy and Carr. A chain match! With Carr’s suspension up, is he ready to back up his words? Is Joe Gacy ready for one of the most brutal matches in wrestling history?

GRUDGE MATCH #2

PCA (Damian Adams & Mike Law) w/ AJ Pan vs. Howie Timberche & Ricky Martinez

The PCA has officially exploded and it’s an all out war with former friends ready to destroy one another! After a series of mishaps… including the loss of the ECWA tag team titles… Damian Adams attacked Howie Timberche, blaming him for all their losses and miscues. And after months of verbal abuse, the attack was the last straw for Timberche! He challenged his former friend and tag partner to a match at the Showboat.. And it was going fairly well for singing wrestler… that is until newer PCA cohort Mike Law became involved and ensured Timberche couldn’t win the match with a blatant attack in front of the referee. More fired up than ever, Timberche challenged the PCA again.. This time to a tag team match… claiming he had just the partner looking to get back at AJ Pan and his cronies. That man is Ricky Martinez! Martinez was a tag team champion with Damian Adams before being unceremoniously kicked out of the group by AJ Pan. Now he wants revenge for the betrayal! Can the PCA regroup and prove they are still a force to be reckoned with? Or will Timberche and Martinez finally get the last laugh they both are craving?

LEGEND VS. VAMPIRE

Meisure Ooh La La w/ Coach Jim Shorts vs. ’The Vamp King’ Kindred Kymari

This will be one of the most bizarre matches to ever take place in an ECWA ring. The wily Frenchman Mr. Ooh La La loves to pretty much pick a fight with anyone who is new to the company. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.  And making his debut is the deadly, bizarre vampire Kindred… who is known for 2 things: drinking blood before his matches and being next to impossible to knock off his feet. This might be a case for the worse for Ooh La La who usually takes advantage of his opponents underestimating him to score shocking upset wins. Kindred isn’t one of those opponents who will fall prey to the Frenchman’s usual humorous antics. He will come hard and fast. And he will  be out to hurt the vet across the ring from him to send a message to the locker room he’s here and ready for a fight. Can the ultimate underdog Mr. Ooh La La once again somehow score a shocking win over a superior opponent? Or will Kindred prove that vampires are here to stay in the ECWA

SHOOTER VS OUTLAW

‘Shamrock Shooter’ Killian McMurphy vs. ‘Hadistic Outlaw’ Mathias Glass

This is another case of a bizarre match in the ECWA… Killian McMurphy is known for his pure wrestling talent and submission skills not rivaled by many on the indies. Mathis Glass is a fun, loving wrestler who is just as soon to draw power from his kosher bagel as he is to put on a pure wrestling display. McMurphy will be in no mood for fun and games on Saturday as he looks to quickly avenge his loss to Josh Adams at the Showboat last week. Glass however, is looking to score yet another win and climb the ladder in ECWA. Needless to say push will come to shove quite quickly in this match. Will Killian McMurphy keep his eye on the prize and reassert himself as a threat in the company? Or can Mathias use his crazy antics to make McMurphy make a mistake so he can steal another victory?

There you have it folks! It’s a great night of pro wrestling that has a little bit for every kind of wrestling fan… this is a can’t miss benefit show! We’ll celebrate Christmas together and end this year in the ECWA the right way. If you want to attend you’ll need all the other information for the event… so here you go and we hope to see you Saturday night for ‘Toys for Tots!

ECWA comes to the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ on Nov 25

ECWA comes to the Showboat in Atlantic City, NJ

Fall is upon us… and with it the Thanksgiving holiday! It’s time for football, turkey, and professional wrestling! Back in the days of NWA, AWA, and the other territories it was a time honored tradition to have a wrestling show either on Thanksgiving or the same weekend. Many classic matches and great memories were made with these special shows. As years past, that tradition faded away just like the territories. However, ECWA management is composed of men who lived those days and want to bring the tradition back from the dead! It was decided that the weekend of Thanksgiving would be a HUGE ECWA show… aptly called ‘High Stakes’. Why you may ask? Because we are bringing the party to a very special venue… the Showboat Hotel on the Atlantic City boardwalk right in Atlantic City, NJ!

You read that correctly. On Saturday November 25, 2017 professional wrestling makes it’s return to the Thanksgiving holiday in a BIG WAY! What better place to showcase it than this venue!

ECWA management has put together an incredible card of action so far. Featuring all of the ECWA favorites fans have come to know we also are adding 2 WWE Hall of Famers to the mix! Former Intercontinental Champion and a competitor on the first 9 Wrestlemania’s.. Tito Santana… and ½ of the first African American Tag Team Champions ever ‘Mr. USA’ Tony Atlas! Both men will meet & greet with fans AND be in action! That’s crazy news for all wrestling fans! Here’s a look at the night’s card to see what kind of intense wrestling you’ll be witnessing LIVE at the Showboat:

ECWA Heavyweight Championship

Azrieal ( c ) w/ AJ Pan vs. ‘Pro Wrestling Maniac’ Joe Gacy

Azrieal just recently won back the heavyweight championship just last month. Before that however he had a great reign as champion defeating all comers easily… surprisingly without much aid from his PCA cohort AJ Pan. Joe Gacy has been battling for months trying to establish himself as a contender. He finally earns a shot at ‘Big Red’. Gacy defeated ECWA owner Mike Tartaglia and his cronies then eventually battled his way through former champion Sean Carr. Needless to say this is a battle worth watching!

ECWA Mid Atlantic Championship

Breaker Morant (c ) vs. ‘The Draw’s’ Chris Wylde w/ Joel Blackhart

Breaker and Wylde have been doing battle seemingly for years. Their battles as far as back as 2011-12 were legendary, hard hitting and included everything from cages.. To jumping off the entrance way through tables, to fire burning faces. These two have hated each other. Wylde feels ECWA management has replaced him with Breaker as the chosen face of the company. Breaker is just a warrior who is ready to face an old enemy. Two paths collide!

ECWA Women’s Championship

Karen Q ( c ) vs. Deonna Purrazzo

These two training partners have did war in ECWA since they both debuted over 2 years ago. Deonna often times got the better of those fights including winning one of her two Super 8 victories over Karen. They’ve even fought at ROH’s Women of Honor events! However the table have turned. Karen is now the Women’s Champion after defeating Deonna and Santana Garrett just last month to become the new Super 8 Champion. Expect more of the same from these two! This will be a test of strength, wits, and whoever outsmarts the other the fastest. Can Deonna start another year long title reign?

Six Man Tag Team Match- Special Attraction

Jay D. Luscious & WWE Legends Tito Santana & ‘Mr. USA’ Tony Atlas vs. ‘The Draw’- ECWA Tag Team Champions One Mean Team (Brian Johnson & Justin Pusser) & Adam Chandler the Great w/ Miss Jasmine & Joel Blackhart

Jay D. Luscious is sick of the Draw! They firstly screwed him and his partner Mr. Ooh La La out of the ECWA Tag Team titles.. Then they injured Ooh La La the very same night! Now just last month they cheated their way to another victory at his expense when Adam Chandler speared him behind the referee’s back! He’s out for revenge! So he enlisted two friends of his… WWE legends Tito Santana and Tony Atlas! The Draw will have their hands full with the powerhouse Jay D. and two men who have a combined almost 4 decades of experience!

PCA IMPLODES!

Damian Adams w/ AJ Pan vs. Howie Timberche

The PCA has fell on some hard times… they were dominating tag team champions with a rotating door of partners for Adams. However, they lost the tag team titles a few months back. Of course, dissention wasn’t fully in the air yet. After failed attempt after failed attempt to get the Tag Team titles back, Damian Adams took to blaming now/then partner Howie Timberche for the loses saying he wasn’t listening. Timberche had enough! 2 months ago he shut Adams up by attacking him after their match! And now, the challenge has been laid down!

Battle of Submission Specialists

‘Shamrock Shooter’ Killian McMurphy vs. Josh Adams

Killian McMurphy has been very impressive since he debuted on the ECWA Showcase shows. He’s beaten everybody he’s faced along the way. His ring prowess, submission skills, and incredible technical ability aren’t matches by anyone currently in ECWA. Unless you ask Josh Adams that is. Adams fancies himself the best pure wrestling talent in the company and is insulted that McMurphy is considered a better submissions artist than himself. So we’ll settle things once and for all… who’s the better pure wrestler? Find out soon enough!

‘Hadistic Outlaw’ Mathias Glass vs. ‘Colossal’ Mike Law w/ AJ Pan

Mathias Glass is one of the most interesting, entertaining men to ever step foot in a wrestling ring! His fun loving attitude is only matches by his hilarious take on his Jewish heritage. However, he comes face to face with Mike Law. Law, already announced as the first competitor in next year’s Super 8 Tournament, is no slouch when it comes to in ring talent and skill. Him and AJ Pan are in foul moods after the PCA has been a mockery of by ECWA fans and matchmaker Joe Zanolle. They won’t be in the mood for any of the antics Mathias Glass is known for. However, that’s just kosher with Glass who’s looking to climb his way up the ladder in ECWA. A win against a talent like Law goes a long way towards future opportunities!

There you have it! That’s a quick rundown of the card that ECWA brings to you, the fans, on Thanksgiving weekend! ‘High Stakes’ will be a history making event as we bring back the pro wrestling tradition to this holiday season! Don’t miss this great night of fun with your family… stay.. Watch the show… enjoy the nightlife of Atlantic City… and even spend the night at the Showboat itself with a special discount for ECWA fans only! ECWA Women’s Super 8 ChickFight Meet the Participants Part 2

2017 ECWA ChickFight Super 8: Meet the Participants Part 2

The ECWA is once again on the forefront of innovation in the pro wrestling world! A few years ago minds were put together to create a women’s version of the Super 8 Tournament! It’s so far been a rousing success in showcasing some of the best women’s wrestlers in the country today! Hard to believe we’re already in the fourth year of action. This year is no different than the years before… we have 8 of the best… most underrated… and hungry professional wrestlers in the country ready to make their mark on history and hoist the coveted Super 8 trophy! And to boot whoever wins the tournament this year will also be the new ECWA Women’s Champion! Who will be the next break out star? This two part article series is meant to introduce you to the women you’ll see compete on Saturday October 21, 2017 in Woodbury, NJ. So without further ado meet the remaining 4 competitors in this year’s Super 8 Tournament!

Santana Garrett

Garrett is one of the most experienced competitors in this year’s field of 8. A veteran of 8 years, she was trained by Chasyn Rance, Larry Zbyszko, and Scott Hall among others. She’s made a huge name for herself traveling all over the country and world for places like Shine, WOW, Stardom… and most notably has appeared on TNA and in WWE, most recently in the Mae Young Classic. Her list of accolades is impressive: Shine Champion, Shine Tag Team Champion, Wonder of Stardom Champion, a former NWA Women’s Champion, and even won the Stardom International Grand Prix in 2016. Tournaments are Garrett’s specialty it seems! Known for portraying a Wonder Woman-esque character, her power game is second to none in women’s wrestling. She’ll out power and out smart every woman in this tournament… making her the early favorite to win it all! Will she be able to prove that her failure to win the Mae Young Classic was just a fluke?

Allie Recks

Allie Recks has the most to prove this year… she’s coming off a bad knee injury that took her out of action for about a year. However, don’t take her lightly! She’s another student of Damian Adams’ Team Adams Dojo and CZW Dojo… which means two things: She will be technique based that will be able to counter anything thrown her way and crazy enough to do unthinkable things to defeat her opponents! I guess that’s why they call her ‘The Reckless Princess’! She’s already on the comeback trail wrestling for WOW, Tier 1 Wrestling, BCW, and PPW to name a few… with her youth and pedigree she wants to prove she is one of pro wrestling’s brightest women’s wrestlers. Hard to argue her chances, she’s been trained to wrestle smart and hit harder than anyone else in the field. Will she be able to prove she is one of the rising stars in wrestling like she was before her injury? Only time will tell just how far this reckless warrior is willing to go to prove it.

Samantha Heights

Samantha might be one of the lesser known names in this year’s tournament but through no fault of her own… trained by indy wrestling vet and current TNA Tag Team Champion Dave Crist, she’s been fighting her way through promotions like WSU, Queens of Combat, and Shimmer. She even recently competed in the AAW Women’s Title Tournament falling just short… and this will fuel her fire to come out on top of this year’s Super 8. Heights is debuting in new promotions literally weekly and is quickly becoming known for having the best match on the card. It’s easy to see why. Her quick hitting, hard hitting, aerial assault is absolutely brutal and not common among women’s wrestling. Her trainer has made sure what she might lack in mat based wrestling she makes up for in pure willpower and strength… suffice to say she will be the hardest out in this tournament! She’s not like most women around the country on the indy circuit… she is willing to get her hands dirty, destroy any woman in her path, and isn’t out to make friends. Gold is her goal!

Kaitlin Diamond

Bringing the first international flair to any year of the Women’s Super 8, Kaitlin Diamond is the most experienced participant to take part in any year of the tournament. She’s been tearing up indy wrestling for the last 12 years, ever since her debut in 2005! Fighting out of Canada she’s followed in the footsteps of other great Canadian professional wrestlers, she’s an absolute master of mat based submission wrestling and is like pure silk as she maneuvers around the ring with her wide range of old school style offense. Her prowess has lead to a list of accolades that most women in WWE don’t get to accomplish… she was ranked #49 in the PWI Women’s Top 50 Wrestlers in 2016, she’s won victory after victory around the globe for Mexican promotions WWS and LLF, Japan’s Stardom, the UK’s BEW, and participated in the German Wrestling Federation’s Women’s title tournament in Berlin, Germany. That’s an insane amount of experience! And just to think of all the styles of wrestling she is able to incorporate as she methodically figures out her opponents strengths and weaknesses. It wouldn’t be a cop out at all to assume she might be the favorite to win it that no one is talking about. Diamond is out to cement her career’s legacy by winning the Super 8!

There you have it! The entire field of 8! Read about them and draw your own conclusions and dream matches you want to see! The only way to see how it plays out is to be there on Saturday October 21 to witness history as this women do battle to write their name in independent wrestling history! Here’s all the info:

Deonna Purrazzo

The ECWA faithful should be no stranger to this hard nosed beauty. Trained by Rip Rogers at the D2W wrestling academy and vets like Damian Adams, her old school approach to wrestling has gave her amazing success in her very young career! She’s already competed  in TNA, ROH’s Women of Honor, and on WWE’s NXT brand numerous times including competing on and being an alternate for WWE’s Mae Young Classic Women’s Tournament! Purrazzo had easily been the longest reigning ECWA Women’s Champion of all time before having to vacate for upcoming career opportunities. However, she’s back again to make unprecedented indy wrestling history… if she were to win it’d be her THIRD in a row. No person, man or woman, has won more than two. Her smooth ring awareness and ability to weaken her opponent systematically make her one of the hardest to beat women on the indy circuit today. Beware for her deadly Fujiwara Arm Bar submission comes out of nowhere!

Karen Q

Karen Q is entering her second Super 8 Tournament… and she narrowly lost last year’s Final. The feisty and temperamental brawler is out for blood to finally prove her worth in the world of professional wrestling. Perfecting her craft under two different academies… World of Unpredictable Wrestling under Johnny Rodz and the Team Adams Dojo under Damian Adams, Karen’s star has been on the rise! She’s traveled all over the country since last year’s tournament making a name for herself… even competing most notably for ROH’s Women of Honor. Her strength is her natural athletic ability she gained from years of gymnastics… she’ll easily be the best all around athlete in the tournament. Her game is power.. She’ll weaken her opponents to set up for her Boston Crab… once that’s locked in almost everyone taps out!

Skyler Marie

This fiery red head has been making huge noise around the independent scene… training with Kevin Landry’s Pro Wrestling Combine for the last few years, Skyler is a relative rookie to pro wrestling. However, don’t let that fool you! She’s quickly become a huge fan favorite every promotion she’s worked for which includes Women’s Wrestling Revolution, Limitless Pro Wrestling, Blitzkrieg Pro, and is even the Pioneer Valley Pro’s Women’s Champion. That’s quite a list of accolades and important victories on a resume that’s only a year long. Her mat wrestling is superb and she’ll be quite the handful for anyone who dares try to out maneuver her in the ring. Her fire is her biggest weapon… so you can bet she’ll look to hit fast and hard to surprise the much more experienced competitors in the tournament. She could easily be a dark horse to win it all… most of the past winners were rookies when they won the tournament as well!

Christina Marie

Christina is another rookie looking to make a name for herself on the independent wrestling scene… based out of Albany, NY one of her trainers happens to be the legendary Shockwave the Robot! That means her technique will be perfect, she’ll fly around the ring like a luchador, and even have a Japanese influence to almost everything she does in the ring! She could easily be the most impressive debut ever in ECWA as her agility is really something to behold. Doesn’t hurt she is well known for being a power lifter as well! Speed and power are a rare combo for a women’s wrestler to have! Already with a good foothold on the indies for places like World of Hurt Wrestling, Dynasty, and PAPW this is Christina Marie’s chance to cement her spot as the next big thing in women’s wrestling. Hard to argue with the pedigree she brings to the table!
