ECWA- Raising the Bar

Newark, Delaware–The Greek God” Papadon successfully retained “Big Red” – the East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) Heavyweight Title – against one of independent wrestling’s rising stars, in Adam Cole tonight at ECWA “Raising The Bar” in a nearly 30-minute affair. The only question is … what will “The best unsigned talent in professional wrestling” do next?

Meanwhile, Papadon’s compatriot and boss Mike Tartaglia had a much more difficult night in the ring, losing his newly bought ECWA Mid-Atlantic Championship belt in just his first title defense, against Mr. Ooh La La. All that, plus a smashingly painful loss for former Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA) Heavyweight Title-holder Breaker Morant in his falls-count-anywhere match with new champion “Heart Killer” Chris Wyle, and a crazy first-time tag team encounter between ECWA Tag Team Champions Fusion-DS and the high-flying team of Bandido Jr. and Azrieal.

ECWA “Raising the Bar” was promoted as a night of nearly all first-time-ever matches, and it did not disappoint for the VERY electric Greater Newark Boys and Girls Club crowd.

“Beautiful” Bobby Shields (with Joel “Blackhart” Goodhart vs. Cole Callaway

Blackheart member Bobby Shields clearly underestimated the always-upbeat Callaway, and fell victim to his high-flying attack early. Outside of the ring, Shields was able to ground the rainbow-emblazoned competitor by ramming his back into the ring apron, then continuing to punish his back inside the ring with a series of punishing suplexes, charges into the corner, and dropkicks. In the end, Shields’ aggression proved too much for Callaway, and he pinned him w/ the Gory bomb.

Bobby Shields vs.. Cole Callaway

Tina San Antonio vs. Jessie Kaye

Jessie Kaye was all fun in the beginning of this match, dancing and playing with the Newark, Delaware crowd as Tina San Antonio looked on menacingly. It was not long before a screeching San Antonio punished Kaye with a front-face-lock that appeared to rip the face right off of the popular Kaye. In the end, a few evasive maneuvers were enough to get Kaye out of the situation, rolling up her blonde opponent for the win.

Tina San Antonio (standing) vs. Jessie Kaye

*”The BOSS” Michael Tartaglia, the current ECWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion, comes to the ring to the music “2001 Space Odyssey!” UGH!!! Tartaglia comes out and asks former WWE Women’s Champion“the Kat” Stacy Carter to come to the ring. When she does, Tartaglia admites that he has feelings for her and asks her to admit that she has feelings for him too! He does this while insulting Stacy in a way only the BOSS knows how. When Stacy agrees, she suggest the seal it with a kiss and blindfolds the BOSS. Much to the delight of the Delaware crowd Carter, Mr. Ooh La La, Coach Jim Shorts and Cole Callaway had other plans….

Cole Callaway surprised "the BOSS" Mike Tartaglia much to delight of Stacy Carter and the ECWA crowd!

ECWA Unified Tag Team Championship – FUSION-DS (Damian Dragon & Matt Saigon) (c) vs. Azrieal and Bandido Jr.

It was a long feeling-out period, early, for champions and challengers, prior to Bandido Jr. and Azrieal taking charge with a series of strong aerial moves. Unfortunately for Jr. & Az, Fusion-DS would soon take advantage of a mistake to hit their opponents with some timely double-team moves and, ultimately, catching a prone Bandido Jr. on the top turnbuckle allowing DS to hit the FUSION Destroyer on Az for the win.

“Another night, another successful defense,” crowed Dragon as the duo entered the back. “Joe Zanolle (ECWA matchmaker) is going to have no idea what to do with us because we’ll have vanquished everybody.” “All I can say is he better find somebody soon to give us more of a challenge,” mirrored the equally smug Matt Saigon.

Damian Dragon vs. Bandido Jr.

Aden Chambers vs. Kekoa The Flyin Hawaiian

A real-life dream encounter for ECWA fans between ECWA Grand-Slam Champion Aden Chambers and former Mid-Atlantic Champion Kekoa may have given birth to one of the most fiercely contested, one-on-one rivalries in the soon-to-be-45-year history of the company. Whereas the tag title match started out slow with the opponents feeling each other out, Kekoa and Chambers took the action to one another almost immediately. Everything from aerial combat to suplexes to vicious punches, kicks, and chops were on display.

In the end, Chambers looked poised to pin Kekoa with a superplex off the top rope that rocked The Greater Newark Boys and Girls Club, and seemingly sent Kekoa into more of a losing streak. This time, however, Kekoa was able to roll through and hook his leg on Chambers for the pinfall win.

“Kid America” Mike Kehner vs. “Greatest American Hero” Corey Blaze

For the now-unmasked Kid America, it was clear that he had a real grudge to settle. Mike Kehner would take it to Corey Blaze from the opening bell, punishing his opponent with an assault for nearly five minutes before locking on a choke hold on Blaze and getting disqualified for his aggressive behavior.

After the match an irate Kehner announced he was fed up with Corey Blaze, noting that their next match in July would have to be their last ever. It was then that Kid America challenged Blaze to a Stretcher Match!

ECWA Mid-Atlantic Championship – “The Boss” Mike Tartaglia (c) (with Ricky “The Model” Martinez and PR Agent Gus Grande) vs. Mr. Ooh La La (with Coach Jim Shorts)

Earlier in the night, Mike Tartaglia would come out to the ring to the absolute disgust of the traditional ECWA crowd which had grown accustomed to his antics in the ring and constant attempts at buying success. It was not long before Tartaglia would call out ECWA’s special guest for the evening, Stacy “The Kat” Carter. It is no secret that Tartaglia – who has made the ECWA his own vanity project as late by promoting only himself – has long had a crush on the former Miss Kitty. In one of his more obnoxious displays, Tartaglia made an attempt to lure Carter to be his wife, showing her disgusting before-and-after pictures of what her life could be like. Sadly, the entire presentation would end with a gag-reflex-inducing shot of Tartaglia and Carter, arm-in-arm that left the fans chanting “Photoshop!” Carter promised to seal the deal with a kiss, wrapping a bandanna around The Boss’ eyes. It was then that the night went awry for Tartaglia, as she quietly summoned Ooh La La, Shorts, and Cole Callaway, who would kiss the Boss to Tartaglia’s absolute disgust.

At the start of the actual match, Tartaglia proceeded to run down Ooh La La, even handing him the dreaded envelope of money that, fortunately, Ooh La La turned down. In response, Tartaglia welcomed Ricky “The Model” Martinez and Press Agent Gus Grande to stand in his corner at ringside. Tartaglia dominated much of the match, using underhanded tactics to attempt to maintain his control every time Ooh La La started to rally. One bright spot in the match came when the Greater Newark Boys and Girls club crowd erupted in a chant of “Toss the Boss!” To their delight, Mr. Ooh La La was quick to oblige by throwing Tartaglia over the top rope to the outside. After landing a devastating second-rope bulldog on the fiery Frenchman, The Boss appeared to have the match won. To everyone’s utter shock, however, Ooh La La summoned the inner strength needed to kick out at two, and – after The Kat ran down and distracted her #1 Fan with a long kiss – rolled him up for the three-count.

After the match, the audience erupted in a rocking chant of “Ooh La La” that will not soon be forgotten.

"The BOSS" Mike Tartaglia vs. Mr. Ooh La La

Tri-State Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Championship – “Heart Killer” Chris Wylde (c) vs. Breaker Morant (with Joel Goodhart)

Chris Wylde and Breaker Morant took their fight to the outside early, before making their way back into the ring where Wylde tried to take to the air. When he climbed to the top rope, he was knocked to the outside by Breaker and nearly assaulted by Joel Blackheart with a bowling pin. Wylde would catch the weapon, turning around and throwing it hard into Breaker’s shoulder for an audibly painful thud. This prompted an all-out brawl between the two into the crowd, involving tables, stretchers, walls, kendo sticks, and anything else the two could get their hands on, including a car in the parking lot! After fighting nearly to the outside, the two would scale the scaffolding that holds together the ECWA entrance-way, brawling in front of the big screen before Wylde was able spear Morant 15 feet in the air and through a table to pick up the win.

Following this shocking, mortifying, violent conclusion, Wylde was attacked by Morant’s stablemate Bobby Shields. After Kekoa came down to make the save, a physically and emotionally exhausted Heart Killer challenged the faction to a War Games match in July. Who knows what will be in store?!

Chris Wylde vs. Breaker Morant

A second viewpoint:

ECWA Heavyweight Championship – “The Greek God” Papadon (c) vs. Adam Cole

On this night, “The Greek God” was just a little bit better. Papadon sustained a flurry of aerial and other offensive moves from the current Ring of Honor up-and-comer – and ECWA Super 8 2011 alum – Cole, including Cole hitting of a very John Cena-esque Attitude Adjustment, Cole’s reversal of a Papadon back-splash into a rollup, and Cole moving out of the way of a Papadon top-rope splash, all for very close 2-1/2 counts. The combatants had each other scouted so well that they would use each other’s finishers on their opponent for near falls, including Papadon hitting the Panama Sunrise on Papadon and Cole catching Papadon with the Alpha-Omega (shining wizard). At the end of the day, Papadon was able to pin Cole with the Wrath of God (a top rope superplex which upon impact with the mat, Papadon rolls back into a standing position to hit the piledriver), ending more than 27 minutes of excitement.

“At the end of the day, this was not a battle to win my respect, as has been with so many others,” said Papadon as he threw a towel over his head in the back. Adam already had my utmost respect for all he has accomplished in the ring. This was a battle between two emerging stars in this business, and I have no doubt that our careers will cross paths again. Maybe even in WWE. We’re both that good.”

ECWA Heavyweight Title Match
“Greek God” Papadon (c ) vs. Adam Cole

This promises to be THE biggest, most explosive ECWA Heavyweight Title Matches in the 44 year history of the ECWA. You’ll definitely need to be there to see the drama unfold and witness wrestling at its best. Papadon is fresh off of winning the 2012 Super 8 and defending his title against the very popular and talented Kekoa the Flyin’ Hawaiian. Cole is one of the young upstarts in ROH who recently pinned ROH champion Davey Richards in tag team encounter and came very close to unseating Richards for the championship in a singles match. Will the “Greek God” continue to cement his legacy by once again retaining his title? Or will Adam Cole spoil the party and prove why he is considered one of the best in the world today?

TWA Heavyweight Title Match: Falls Count Anywhere
“Heart Killer” Chris Wylde (c ) vs. Breaker Morant w/ Joel Blackhart

When the Blackhearts first invaded the ECWA, no one knew it was more than one person. No one knew that it was former TWA promoter and owner Joel Goodhart behind it all and that TWA stars Bobby Shields, Josh Daniels, and TWA champ Breaker Morant were the bite behind his bark. Chris Wylde took the invasion personally and has been on a mission to rid the ECWA of the Blackhart menace. Month after month, Wylde has proven his strength, determination, and everything that embodies the ECWA spirit. So much so that last month, he challenged Breaker Morant for his coveted TWA heavyweight title. Against all odds, he pulled out the victory and is the new TWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!!! Now in a state of disbelief and anger, Breaker issued a challenge that has since been accepted to fight Chris Wylde for the TWA title! Not to mention it has a special stipulation…. FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE IN THE BUILDING! Will Wylde once again repel the bitter, evil Blackharts and possibly even finish off Breaker Morant for good? Or will the ex-champ prove he’s not done yet and crumble the Heartkiller forever? Time will tell as this explosive match-up takes place on June 2!

ECWA Unified Tag Team Title Match
“FUSION DS” Matt Saigon & Damian Dragon (c ) vs. Bandido Jr. & Azrieal

A tag team war is set for Raising The Bar on June 2! “FUSION DS” Matt Saigon and Damian Dragon, are fresh off defeating “the Midnight Sensations” Christopher Rockwell & Sam Shields in a Losers Leave ECWA Match and finishing them off for good after a year-long back and forth battle. They believe it’s their destiny to hold the tag team titles in ECWA and that no one can beat them. Unfortunately for FUSION, there is a team that thinks they have more than what it takes to defeat the current 3-time champions and end the championship celebration early. Bandido Jr and Azrieal, a very dangerous and well known team, are bring an exciting blend of technical and high flying skills into the ECWA. Bandido Jr. & Azrieal hold wins in the ECWA over such great teams as The Slophunters (Alex Reynolds & Johnny Silver) and Ricky “the Model” Martinez & Danny E! On June 2nd, the 2012 SUPER 8 quarter-final round opponents are back together, this time going after the ECWA Unified Tag Team Titles. What else could possibly up the ante in this exciting match-up? The fact that these two teams are the only 2 independent tag teams to ever be ranked in the PWI Top Ten Tag Teams. That’s huge and has helped bolster both teams’ confidence going into this match-up. Be there June 2 to see which team is truly the best!

ECWA Mid-Atlantic Title Match
“The BOSS” Mike Tartaglia (c ) vs. Mr. Ooh La La w/ Coach Jim Shorts

ECWA promoter and owner Michael Tartaglia has reached a new all-time low as after last month’s event, May 5th Divide & Conquer, he BOUGHT the ECWA Mid Atlantic Championship from “Greek God” Papadon! Since then he’s been running around South Jersey boasting he’s the champ and is unbeatable and overall making a fool of himself, even sleeping with the title! All this was after he screwed ECWA icon and Hall Of Famer Mr. Ooh La La the night he was receiving the first Lifetime Achievement Award in ECWA History. Ooh La La was already on the wrong side of the boss as he eliminated Tartaglia in the Annual Super 8 Battle Royal back in April. Not to mention Ooh La La was starting his #tosstheboss campaign which infuriated Tartaglia. Since Ooh La La’s “title match” with Papadon was not conducted under the most air circumstances, he was offered another shot by ECWA Matchmaker Joe Zanolle. This time Ooh La La chose the Mid-Atlantic Title and Tartaglia looking for revenge. Will Ooh La La pay the price for “Crossing the Boss” or will he find justice and the Mid-Atlantic Championship? Find out on June 2, ‘Raising The Bar’!

Grandslam Champion Aden Chambers vs. Kekoa the Flyin’ Hawaiian

In a match-up of two of the best talents ever to step foot in an ECWA ring, Kekoa the Flying Hawaiian faces off against ECWA Grandslam Champion Aden Chambers! Kekoa is hungry to prove himself after first, losing in the first round of the 2012 Super 8 Tournament and then last month losing his Mid Atlantic Championship to “Greek God” Papadon. Chambers is an ECWA icon, having already won the 2008 Super 8 Tournament and is a Grand Slam Champion(won all titles in the ECWA). Aden’s back on the prowl looking to re-climb the ECWA ladder and once again prove he’s still the best on the East Coast.

What will happen when a focused Kekoa runs square into the smirking, confident veteran Aden Chambers? You’ll have to be there to see what happens as this match will be electric!

In many ways, Kekoa is the New Era version of ECWA Original Aden Chambers. Both are very popular with the fans and both are super talented!!! This is the first time ever these two have met and may be the only time! Don’t miss this match!!!!!!!!!

“Greatest American Hero” Corey Blaze vs. Kid America

Former tag team partners collide! A few months ago, Corey Blaze was teaming up with Kid America in a team called “America’s Hero’s”. However, after a few miscues and mishaps Corey was sick of being teamed with what he called a ‘cartoon character’ and declared himself the only real hero in the ECWA. Brutality ensued as Corey assaulted Kid America after a match so brutally that he had to be carried out on a stretcher! Doctor’s then told him he had to retire based off the neck injury he received during the beating. Kid USA, Kid America’s young protégé, decided to take up the honor of his mentor and fight Blaze himself. What he didn’t realize was this new focused Corey Blaze was out to hurt him and hurt him he did. Flash forward to last month at May 5th ‘Divide and Conquer’ as Kid USA wanted revenge for not only his mentor but for himself as well. Corey once again beat the young upstart badly before he went for the kill…. but it didn’t get that far… as he went for the pinfall referee Mike Kehner stopped making the 3 count as Kid America’s music hit… Corey, ready for a fight, didn’t notice that Kehner had put on the familiar red, white, and blue mask and was revealed to be Kid America! After numerous attempts by the locker room and security the two men were finally separated and this match set-up. It has all lead to this as June 2 at ‘Raising The Bar’Mike Kehner aka Kid America faces off against the “Greatest American Hero” Corey Blaze in a huge grudge match for the ages! This will not be a wrestling match, this is going to be a FIGHT!

Beautiful” Bobby Shields w/ Joel Blackhart vs. Cole Callaway

Blackheart vs. The Rainbow!

“Beautiful” Bobby Shields is tired of being disrespected by fans and is trying to redeem the Blackheart name a bit after they’ve suffered a setback in losing the TWA title. Of course, standing in his way is the vastly popular Cole Callaway who loves nothing more to make people smile and …entertain the fans of the ECWA. Sheilds is not impressed and wants to wipe the smile off of Cole’s face and off the face of every single person in the Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club. However, Callaway has shown when pushed to the limit he can out wrestle just about anyone on the ECWA roster. Will Bobby be able to redeem himself and the Blackhearts by defeating someone very loved by the ECWA fans? Or will Cole show that he is more than just “show” and is in fact a force to be reckoned with? Be there as the dark, evil Blackheart “Beautiful” Bobby Shields takes on the keeper of the rainbow, Cole Callaway!

Women’s Match: Tina San Antonio vs. Jessie Kaye

Woman’s Action in the ECWA! After being dormant for a good many years, woman’s action has become a staple of the shows as of late as we bring you the best, battling beauties on the indie scene! This time we bring in the tough as nails and popular Jessica Kaye who is making her return to ECWA after an unsuccessful debut at the last Carney’s Point, NJ show. Standing across the ring from her is the stunning blonde Tina San Antonio who is making her ECWA debut after previously debuting with the TWA. Kaye is out to prove she is the better competitor, but she should proceed with caution as San Antonio has been known to do whatever it takes to win. What will happen as these two battle inside the ECWA ring for the first time? Be there and see for yourself on Saturday, June 2 at ‘Raising The Bar’!

PLUS… Special Appearance by former WWE Women’s Champion, Stacy “the KAT” Carter!!!

June 2 is also the return of a huge fan favorite! Former WWF/E Woman’s Champion Stacy “The Kat” Carter makes her return to the ECWA! Bringing her own brand of beauty and charm, she’s won over the ECWA faithful in past appearances. ECWA owner, promoter, AND ECWA Mid Atlantic champion Mike Tartaglia has had a very public affection for the stunning blonde and unfournately for us it’s sure to bubble up once again at ‘Raising the Bar’. What will happen as Stacy once again steps in the ECWA ring? Will she and Mike be “buddies?” Or will she be tire easily of his cocky arrogance like everyone else? Or is it just a simple visit to see all her fans and friends? Find out on saturday, June 2 as former WWE Diva Stacy Carter makes her return!
