Breaking News:First time ever in 20 year history, Deonna Purrazzo wins Super 8 Tournament back to back

BREAKING NEWS! Indy wrestling history made as Deonna Purrazzo wins BACK TO BACK Super 8 Tournaments: First time ever in 20 years!

The ECWA Super 8 Tournament has long been the premiere tournament in all of independent wrestling. When Jim Kettner came up with the idea way back in 1997 there was no way he could have known how important the tournament would become. Young hungry talent with something to prove and veterans alike have all fought for the coveted Super 8 trophy and all that comes with it… exposure, recognition, and almost certainly extensive coverage in PWI magazine. The fast paced, hard hitting style of the tournament inspired a whole generation of wrestlers and even eventually led to the creation of ROH. Listing every major name that has taken part in or won the tournament would take far longer than this articles intent but here’s a brief review:

*Former WWE World Champion Daniel Bryan

*Former WWE Tag Team Champion Brian Kendrick

*TNA/ROH star Christopher Daniels

*NXT star Austin Aries

*Former WWE Tag Team Champions, both Matt and Jeff Hardy

*International wrestling star Low Ki

That is literally just the tip of the iceberg. All those names and a vast majority of them were talents who were just waiting for their first big break. They all went to dizzying heights in the wrestling business! The winners list is almost mind numbing to look at and a true testament to the influence of the Super 8. It’s crazy to think only one competitor has won more than one tournament though (Christopher Daniels) and not one person has ever won back to back tournaments. It had become almost a pipe dream. But as the years have gone by ECWA management, now owned by Mike Tartaglia, wanted to expand. And finally a new idea was created, a Women’s Super 8 Tournament!

Female wrestlers would finally get a grand stage to showcase their talents and show why they could be the next break out star! Flash forward and we just completed the third year! How is that important to the previous paragraphs facts? It’s because of this expansion that the unthinkable has happened… for the first time in 20 YEARS of history there has been someone to finally win BACK TO BACK Super 8 Tournaments!

On Saturday October 22, 2016, the third annual Women’s Super 8 Chick Fight Tournament took place. 8 competitors entered for their chance at immortality: Karen Q, Faye Jackson, Aja Perera, Kiera Hogan, Britt Baker, Maria Manic, Tasha Steelz, and  the previous year’s winner Deonna Purrazzo.

Deonna Purrazzo herself is one of the fastest rising stars in the world today and certainly the hottest free agent in professional wrestling. She even came into the tournament as ECWA Women’s Champion. Why is she such a hot commodity? Because she was the 2015 Super 8 Chick Fight Tournament Champion! Since then she has traveled all over the place… ROH, TNA, WWE and even has an upcoming trip to Japan in 2017!

In the tournament though, Purrazzo was ALL BUSINESS. Dispatching Tasha Steelz and Kiera Hogan in the tournaments first 2 rounds, she eventually came to face off against Karen Q in the Super 8 Finals with HISTORY ON THE LINE! After nearly a half hour of battling back and forth and the fans literally biting their nails the unthinkable… the MOST SHOCKING… and the MOST UNFORGETTABLE moment in ECWA and Super 8 history took place…

Deonna Purrazzo locked in her arm breaker submission and Karen Q tapped out….

YES! YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY! DEONNA PURRAZZO IS THE FIRST PERSON IN INDEPENDENT WRESTLING HISTORY TO WIN BACK TO BACK SUPER 8 TOURNAMENTS!

Think about all those names previously mentioned… and a look at the full list of past Super 8 participants will give you pause and carries an immense amount of weight. Not a single one of the previous winners, male or female, ever won back to back tournaments!

Deonna has done it! The chiseled, immensely strong beauty has DOMINATED the ECWA landscape… actually indy wrestling in general… for well over a year and now the world will know her name forever! The Super 8 Tournament is all about showcasing talent, giving a wrestler a chance to unleash all they have mentally and physically and forever make their mark on wrestling history.

NO ONE over the last 2 years has emphasized those qualities more than Deonna Purrazzo. She’s sacrificed her body, soul, and mind to become a better, faster, stronger professional wrestler. She’s given up time with her friends and family traveling the country. And she’s proved time and time again she has the best work ethic in the world. All the training day after day after day and she still has a smile and kind word for anyone she encounters. The universe has a way of repaying that kind of determination and will.

And now, her name will become synonymous with the word CHAMPION!

20 years of history and no one accomplished what she just did! Independent history was forever changed last night on the back of one Deonna Purrazzo.

Champion vs. Champion at the ECWA 3rd Annual Women’s Super 8 ChickFight Tournament

Champion vs. Champion at the Women’s Super 8 10/22

It’s closing in on Saturday October 22, 2016 when ECWA presents the third annual ChickFight Super 8 Tournament! As par course, huge promotion has been put into the 8 women fighting for the Super 8 trophy… however, ECWA management has always made sure that the tournament isn’t the only story worth watching on the card when it comes to these huge shows. It just so happens this time they didn’t have to look far…

AJ Pan and his Pan Corp Agency has officially won the war against Bobby Shields and they are here to stay… much to the chagrin of ECWA booker Joe Zanolle. Immediately Pan has reignited his intention to completely dominate the entire locker room and it starts with championship gold. Damian Adams and Romeo hold the Tag Team championships and Azrieal holds the Mid Atlantic. But it’s the aforementioned Azrieal who gets the spotlight here. As you can see by watching this video challenge here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FZwIO43EEw

Yes that video didn’t skip. Azrieal has officially challenged ECWA Heavyweight Champion Sean Carr to a CHAMPION VS CHAMPION MATCH at the Women’s Super 8 Tournament. The winner gets ‘Big Red’! Can you imagine the PCA holding this kind of power?

As you can hear from this response video by Sean Carr himself below he is none too happy about the challenge. However, Carr is almost flamboyantly confident going into this… and despite his many flaws character wise you can’t deny he has risen to every challenge so far. He has gladly accepted and made it clear that Azrieal is in for a real fight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCb7bL0WsUw&feature=youtu.be

The stage is set. This Saturday at the Woodbury Heights community center we will see the ECWA Heavyweight Champion ‘The Hybrid’ Sean Carr take on the PCA’s Mid Atlantic Champion Azrieal… ‘Big Red’ is on the line. Needless to say, October 22 will be a date for all indy wrestling fans to remember!

Will Sean Carr rise to the challenge once again and continue to chase down the 560 day record set by Papadon 4 years ago? Can he truly become the most dominant ECWA Heavyweight Champion in history?

Or will Azrieal prove for the last time that he’s been the most underrated man on the indies and hold both championships? A feat no man had held before (save for Papadon who sold the Mid Atlantic the night he won it). Will AJ Pan himself be lurking about?

Either way this will be EXPLOSIVE! Here’s all the info you need going into this weekend so you can make plans to be there live in person.

Review of Participants in 3rd Annual ECWA Women’s Super 8 ChickFight Tournament Part 2

Spotlight: The Women in the ECWA ChickFight Super 8 Tournament

The ECWA is once again on the forefront of innovation in the pro wrestling world! A few years ago minds were put together to create a women’s version of the Super 8 Tournament! It’s been a rousing success in showcasing some of the best women’s wrestlers in the country today! Hard to believe we’re already in the third year of action. This year is no different than the years before… we have 8 of the best… most underrated… and hungry professional wrestlers in the country ready to make their mark on history and hoist the coveted Super 8 trophy! Who will be the next break out star? This two part article series is meant to introduce you to the women you’ll see compete on Saturday October 22, 2016 in Woodbury, NJ. So without further ado meet the remaining 4 competitors in this year’s Super 8 Tournament!

Rachael Ellering

The daughter of legendary manager and WWE HOF’er Paul Ellering, Rachael has already made a HUGE name for herself despite her being in the business for about a year or so. Training in the Storm Wrestling Academy under former WWE star Lance Storm she’s already moving around the ring like a seasoned veteran and has a nice array of power and technical moves to disable her opponents. Easily the strongest woman in the tournament having won a bronze medal in power lifting prior to her wrestling days, she’s made noise in Shine wrestling and has made two appearances already on WWE’s NXT brand. Needless to say, if Ellering wins this tournament she will automatically become the hottest free agent in women’s wrestling. I guess it’s just in her blood to rule the wrestling world!

Karen Q

The temperamental and possibly mentally unstable Karen Q enters into the Super 8 as the most unpredictable of all eight participants. Training out of two different wrestling academies… World of Unpredictable Wrestling under Johnny Rodz and Team Adams Academy under Damian Adams… she’s got a mean streak a mile wide and the technical prowess to back up her bark. She’s already had her problems with ECWA Women’s Champ Deonna Purrazzo so her entry should be interesting. However, with her athletic background in gymnastics she’s possibly the best pure athlete in the tournament capable of taking immense punishment and dishing out even more. She’ll rely on her ring intelligence and power wrestling to quickly down her opponents… then again what can the other women do against an opponent who is literally crazed to win at all costs?

Tasha Steelz

Tasha comes in hungry to win the Super 8 Tournament and realize her dream of becoming the ‘female Triple H’. Starting her training with IWF before switching over to the Team Adams Academy, she’s slowly turned into a powerhouse wrestler capable of absolutely destroying her opponents limb from limb. The Team Adams Academy seems to produce women with mean streaks and Tasha is no different. She as well attacked Deonna Purrazzo recently and is making a statement she will soon be making noise all around the independent wrestling scene. It’s hard to deny a woman with the strength and conditioning that Steelz has on her side. We very well could see the “Queen HBIC” walk out the champion and see her biggest dreams realized.

Aja Perera

Aja “Super” Perera just might be the only superhero to ever compete in a Super 8 Tournament! Her speed, charisma, and attitude are reminiscent of a younger Gregory Helms. It’s no shocker her training at WWA4, under one of the best high flyers in wrestling AR Fox, has helped elevate her to the next level to reach new heights… and we mean that literally! The perky Perera is out to prove she can match any woman blow for blow in this tournament and save the company from evil at the same time! When push comes to shove, expect Aja to fly around the ring with high impact maneuvers trying to confuse her opponents and lay them down for good. It’s easy to see how the faster Aja can surprise the other woman in the tournament, many of which have built their strategies on power and technical skills. Can she save the Super 8 Tournament?

There you have it a look at all eight competitors in this year’s third annual ECWA ChickFight Super 8 Tournament. Hopefully you gleaned a look into what each woman brings to the table… let the predictions begin on who will win the trophy and position themselves to be a top contender not only in ECWA but in independent wrestling!

Review of the 1st 4 participants in the 3rd Annual ECWA Women’s Super 8 ChickFight Tournament

So without further ado meet the first 4 competitors in this year’s Super 8 Tournament!

Deonna Purrazzo

The ECWA faithful should be no stranger to this hard nosed beauty. Trained by Rip Rogers at the D2W wrestling academy and vets like Damian Adams, her old school approach to wrestling has gave her amazing success in her very young career! She’s already competed  in TNA, ROH’s Women of Honor, and on WWE’s NXT brand numerous times… not to mention her upcoming tour in Japan in 2017. Purrazzo has easily been the longest reigning ECWA Women’s Champion of all time, heck one of the longest champions period in the companies history, and is the odds on favorite to win this year’s tournament herself winning last year’s Super 8 Tournament! Her smooth ring awareness and ability to weaken her opponent systematically make her one of the hardest to beat women on the indy circuit today. Beware her deadly arm breaker submission hold!

Kiera Hogan

The self proclaimed ‘Girl on Fire’ based out of the Dirty South in Atlanta, Georgia is out to make a name for herself in this tournament. Trained by ‘Total Protection’ Mr. Hughes out of WWA4 academy and supported by her boyfriend Owen Knight she’s already made HUGE strides in the ring despite being in the business for only 3 years. Scrappy and resilient just like her idol Mickie James, Kiera is technically sound and will rely on surprising her opponents with her toughness to steal the trophy. Mainly working out of the South for Roar, AWE, and PWX among others she’s started to expand her empire northward working for WSU recently against Taeler Hendrix…. Needless to say she’s seen what the Super 8 has done for past winners and a win her could very easily catapult her into stardom in all companies’ women’s division.

Britt Baker

Britt Baker has only been in the business for a little over a year making her a relative rookie. However, a rookie named Tessa Blanchard stole the tournament in year 1 so never count her out. Trained by Johnny Gargano, Super Hentai, and Candice LeRae she’s got a pedigree a mile long already… with those trainers you should expect a fast, hard hitting style that will most certainly be a treat to watch. It’s been a whirlwind year for Baker, she’s competed in Absolute Intense Wrestling, Girl Fight, Vicious Outcast Wrestling, and the Monster Factory just to name a few… not to mention her appearance on WWE Raw over the summer. Not to mention her recent victory over Deonna Purrazzo… she has the defending champs number! But with her tireless work ethic, she could very well be the winner no one sees coming at the end of this tournament! If she hits her Baker Buster or Rainbaker it’s going to be victory and a trophy for this rookie sensation!

Maria Manic

The blonde vixen has been heating up the indy scene in 2016… As a matter of fact October will mark the one year mark of Maria’s career. Trained by former NWA Heavyweight Champion Damian Wayne she’s already made quite the fan following because of her alluring figure but has recently turned that attention to her much improving ring work. Maria has torn through numerous indy companies like MCW, Covey Pro, WSU, PWX, and of course the ECWA. Her stuck up persona has made a lot of opponents under estimate her and it’s lead to the piling up of victories. While she’s the least experienced woman in this tournament she’s not to be overlooked. Her strength and speed are her biggest assets and this could very well end up with her winning the tournament! Many are already saying Maria is WWE bound… the Super 8 could ensue that comes true.

There you have it a brief look at the first 4 competitors in the ECWA Women’s Super 8 Tournament. This is shaping up to be quite the showcase of professional wrestling! Stay tuned for the second part of the article about the 4 other competitors coming out very soon! You know where to be on Saturday October 22, 2016… In Woodbury, NJ for this amazing show.
