2013 Super 8 Winner returns to host this years 18th Annual Super 8 Tournament

2013 Super 8 Champion Damian Dragon returns to host

The ECWA Super 8 Tournament has had it’s share of amazing stories…. Stories of redemption, sorrow, and sometimes the tournament has defined or justified an entire career.

Last year was a prime example of the latter. Damian Dragon was a man who fought and clawed his way through the vast independent wrestling scene for the better part of 17 years. Trained by WWE Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz and former WWE star Big Vito, he was given the tough skin and pedigree to succeed and reach the pinnacle of the profession. But as such is the dark side of wrestling, Dragon’s incredible talent was often overlooked and forgotten among the crowded Northeastern indy scene. Dragon still refused to take no for an answer fighting to earn respect brushing with many of today’s wrestling elite such as former WWE star’s Colin Delaney, Matt Striker, ROH’s Tommaso Ciampa, former ECW star Steve Corino, among others. But little did Dragon know a chance, supposed to be one time only, tag team match would forever change his destiny and finally get him to the mountain top that long eluded him.

2011 in the TWA, he tag teamed with 2014 Super 8 competitor Matt Saigon as a make shift team for a one off match. But with the fans responding so well, they decided to form Fusion DS. When TWA owner Mike Tartaglia bought the ECWA he brought many of TWA’s mainstays with him including Dragon and Saigon. Fusion would then go on to become quite possibly the most popular tag team in ECWA history winning 3 ECWA tag team championships. They even traveled all over the East Coast winning the 2012 Samoan Cup and would go on to appear several times for ROH. Still years past with the ultimate goal of being in and winning the ECWA Super 8 tournament just out of reach. Dragon was losing faith he would ever get the chance to be in the tournament he read about for so many years in PWI magazine.

That’s when it happened…. Heavily supported by a huge fan base he calls his “True Believers”, ECWA management decided to give him the chance to battle his way to the trophy 17 years after he started his career.

And he didn’t disappoint… backed by his fans and his family, of which his wife is a former wrestler and manager herself as Foxy Foxxy, he put on one of the most memorable Super 8 tournament runs in the now 18 year history of the event. Dispatching ECWA fan favorite Chris Wylde, then former WWE tag team champion Mike Mondo, and longtime rival ‘Greek God’ Papadon he finally hoisted the Super 8 trophy for all to see. Not only did he showcase his talent but he made a statement that dreams DO come true when you have a never say die attitude. Deciding it was a better time than any to call it a day, Dragon removed his boots and officially retired from professional wrestling. Many tears were shed that night in 2013, but it was the proverbial cherry on top of an amazing career.

And he just couldn’t stay away from the ECWA, Damian Dragon has agreed to return to the tournament that he won just a year ago to be the HOST! He will no doubt receive a very warm welcome as he officiates the opening ceremony and makes sure the crowd has a great time.

So don’t miss your chance to see and spend some time with Damian and see what has been the place where so many great superstars of the WWE, TNA, and ROH got their first big break. Don’t miss this event!

ECWA 18th Annual Super 8 looks to be the best ever!

Year 18 of the ECWA Super 8 may be the best ever

          The ECWA Super 8
Tournament is the oldest and most prestigious tournament in the world of
independent professional wrestling. A lot of today’s stars in WWE, TNA, and ROH
got their first big break as unknowns in the single elimination tournament.
Even today, just being selected as an entrant is a top honor and on most
wrestler’s bucket lists before their career is over. But how much impact has
the tournament really had? Here’s a brief history lesson:

The Super 8 Tournament was the pet project of former ECWA
owner Jim Kettner back in 1997. It was a revolutionary idea that created a new
whole world and style of wrestling. Back in the 1990’s, independent wrestling
was still caught in the past of larger than life, slower paced wrestling that
was more popular in the 1980’s. Kettner recognized things had to change. And so
he went about changing the landscape forever… the wrestlers chosen could fly…
really fly around the ring at high speeds and do amazing  high flying moves off the top rope. The idea
took off big time! Fans loved the fast paced action and Delaware got to see
some of the top talent in the country. Names like Billy Kidman, Ace Darling,
and Reckless Youth ushered in a future filled with names today’s wrestling fan
would know. Names like the Hardy Boys, Christopher Daniels, Brian Kendrick,
Austin Aries, and even WWE’s Daniel Bryan all either won or had great showings
in the tournament.

The unique hard hitting style was a revolution on the
indies on the East Coast. Soon every company copied the style… wrestlers
changed their style… and even whole companies were created copying the Super 8’s
wrestling… As a matter of fact Ring of Honor was created from the idea of the
Super 8. Some of  founding father’s were
Steve Bradley, Donovan Morgan, and Low Ki —- all former Super 8 competitors.

And so on Saturday April 5, 2014 in Newark, Delaware at
the Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club the l8 year legacy of the Super 8
continues. This year is filled with some of the best professional wrestler’s in
the entire country!

Here’s a quick rundown of the
men chosen to be the field of 8 this year:

1. ‘M Dogg 20’ Matt Cross- Cross
has traveled the world perfecting his craft as one of the top high flyers in
wrestling. He looks for redemption as he was to be in the tournament in 2007
but had to withdraw because of injury.

2. ‘Maple Leaf Machine’ Kao Storm- Some people say he’s been Delaware’s best kept secret
for years. Now he gets his chance to prove it and show he belongs in a
tournament full of sharks.

3. Steven ‘The Fever’ Walters- Walters is widely known for his technical ability that backs up his
hard hitting suplexes. So much so he just signed a deal with the WWE! Will he
still be as motivated to win the tournament?

4. ‘Southern Savior’ John Skyler- Skyler’s bad attitude is quickly becoming his M.O. But
for good reason… he hits hard and kicks even harder. Certainly a front runner
to win it all.

5. Ricky ‘The Model’ Martinez- A fast rising star that’s recently came into his own. His flamboyant
personality mixed with his resource old school wrestling style make him many
people’s favorite to win.

6. ‘King of the Midway’ Oliver Grimsly- This mysterious master of the dark carnival is the
most interesting entrant in the tournament in years. Known more for his playful
personality, can he go toe to toe with the other 7 men?

7. Gran Akuma- The most
experienced man in this year’s tournament is seeking vengeance for 12 years of
being the forgotten man. His array of amazing slams and suplexes make him a
deadly foe to deal with.

8. ‘Vietnam Phenom’ Matt Saigon- Saigon is determined to follow in the footsteps of his friend Damian
Dragon who won the tournament last year. What makes him unique to this year is
his unmatched power. He’ll look to ground his much faster opponents.

            And as if the
tournament itself wasn’t reason enough to come to see this show there’s also
two other matches planned for the card!

                                                            ECWA Tag Team Championship

                   D-Line
(Black Ice and Body Snatcher) ( C) vs. Team CK (Sean Carr & Kage)

8 man scramble match for a
spot in the ECWA Heavyweight Title match in June

Chris Wylde vs. ‘Monster’ Ahtu vs. ? vs. ?
vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ?

Special Guest
Host: former 3 time ECWA tag team champion and last year’s Super 8 Winner:
DAMIAN DRAGON

You can’t miss this night of
professional wrestling history! Anyone of these 8 men could very well be on
your television screen one day and you won’t want to miss this chance to see
them before they hit the big time! Witness the 18 years of history and legacy
the Super 8 Tournament in a little under one month!

10 Questions with Kekoa

10 Questions with…

Welcome to this month’s edition of ‘10 Questions with’, the
exciting interview series where you, the ECWA fans, can learn about your
favorite ECWA stars and staff! Maybe it’s funny, maybe it’s learning about
life, or okay fine it could be about wrestling too. Either way, we aim to
provide you with an experience that only we here at ECWA offer! This month we
ask 10 questions to now former ECWA Heavyweight Champion Kekoa the Flyin’
Hawaiian! *As of this writing, I would like to wish Kekoa a fast and speedy
recovery as he recovers from a torn ACL ligament in his knee. Unfournately,
Kekoa had to vacate the ECWA title and is expected to miss at the very least 6
months of ring action.

Question 1: When and who
were you trained by?

Kekoa: I was trained back in 2006 in Allentown, PA. The
school was, they’re not operating anymore, Lehigh Valley Wrestling Training
Academy. My trainers were Bill ‘The Benchmark’ Daly, Mike Mongoose, and Buzz
Bentley.

Question 2: What has been
your favorite ECWA moment or match thus far?

Kekoa: Probably my favorite ECWA moment AND match, because
they go hand in hand, was my match with Aden Chambers. As much as I enjoyed
winning the ECWA Heavyweight Championship, and that was such a proud moment of
my career, there was just so much emotion and drive going into that match. It
was just a lot more personal. Just to be able to go out there with someone you
consider a brother was absolutely amazing. The crowd reaction we were getting
and the rest of the locker room who surrounded the ring that night… the whole
night was absolutely amazing. Just to be able to give them that match was
something I’ll never forget.

Question 3: Thanks goes
out to Florence Wendler for this question- When you first started out what was
your biggest fear and why?

Kekoa: My biggest fear was and is failing. The reason why is
because with any dream you have there’s always going to be those people who
tell you you’re never going to do something or you’ll never amount to anything.
When I told my mom when I was a little kid that I wanted to be a professional
wrestler she thought it was just a dream I’d grow out of. Then when I got older
and I still wanted that dream, she told me I was wasting my life. That I should
land my balloon because I’ll never amount to anything in that field. My dad
wasn’t supportive either and no one really was. Even my teachers at school said
I was too small and you’ll never make it. They said to give up but how do you
give up when you haven’t even tried something? Fear was my biggest worry
because once you fail you’ve proven everyone else right and that’s something I
never wanted to do. I’ve been very lucky to have had a very good resumed career
thus far. I’ve did a lot of what I wanted to do. Actually, I had the
opportunity to catch up with an old classmate of mine and he told me he was
proud of me because he was on that list of people who said I’d never make it in
this business. He had no expectations for me in wrestling and he was just so
proud.

Question 4: What advice
would you give an aspiring pro wrestler?

Kekoa: The advice I can give is if you love this business
without a second thought it’s got to be 150% love. It can’t be 60% or anything
other than that for that matter. There’s such hard roads and tough people you
meet along the way that unless you have some backbone and passion for this
business you’re never going to survive them. The road is tough but it won’t be
as bad if you love it more than anything else.

Question 5: Can you share
a funny backstage story?

Kekoa: Haha, I could share a lot of stories. This is the
first one that came to mind. A buddy of mine named Mark Angel… he’s called Mr.
Touchdown in Chikara right now. We were wrestling in LVW years ago and he had
just gotten this new watch for Christmas from his girlfriend at the time. He
was so happy about it and just loved it. Well he had the watch sitting on top
of his bag and I can’t help but rib people. I’m always the jokester backstage.
So I took the watch and put it in my bag in a pocket that no one else knows is
there. When Mark came back from his match and was getting dressed, he noticed
the watch was gone and he absolutely flipped. He was like “I can’t believe
there’s people in this locker room that would steal. I’m tired of this. Nobody
leaves until I find out who took the watch.” He was searching people’s bags. He
was losing it. Then he had to go back out for an autograph signing or something
of that nature and when he left I went and grabbed the watch out of my bag and
put it back on top of his bag. He saw it and goes “Who did it? Who took it? I
swear to god I’ll break you.” It was priceless. I don’t even remember if I ever
told him I took the watch. I’ll have to check in on that, haha.

Question 6: Who do you
think is the best wrestler in the ECWA currently (beside’s yourself)?

Kekoa: I wouldn’t say I’m the best wrestler. Not anymore, I
lost the title. The easy answer is to say whoever the ECWA champion is at the
time is the best wrestler. I mean that’s the proof. You’re proving you’re the
best in the company. With the title vacant, it’s hard to say. My top two
answers right now would be Matt Saigon and Ricky Martinez. That’s not coming
from because I know them personally, it’s because if you’re looking for someone
who has the drive to be the best it’s those two characters. I apologize if that’s
biased but those two are at the top of my list.

Question 7: The Super 8
Tournament is right around the corner. You were in the Tournament back in 2012.
What did that mean to you?

Kekoa: Just to be able to put your name along the same lines
as so many great superstars is just surreal. You almost have to pinch yourself
in those moments and be like “Is this real?” I really hope I get to do it again
because I didn’t give as good a performance as I hoped. As you recall, I lost
in the first round. So I really hope I get to do one again. It was just
amazing.

Question 8: In wrestling
today, what do you think needs to be done to make indy companies more
successful?

Kekoa: I think indy promoters need to focus on what would make
them money rather than what they wanna see. I think they go ‘Oh this guy, he
helped me put up flyers. So I’m gonna put him over in this match.” Or “This guy’s
been around this town for so long I’m gonna have him do this or that.”
Sometimes things don’t make sense. As much as people say the fans aren’t smart,
they are smart. They can see what’s put in front of them. If something doesn’t
make sense to them then you didn’t get your point across. I just think
promoters need to be smart…. Stop being a fan and start being businessmen.

Question 9: Tell something
that no one knows about you— such as a talent, event in your life, etc.

Kekoa: That’s kinda hard because I’m such an open book. I
guess the only thing I can think of, and sorry for it being on the negative
side, is I had a really tough upbringing. My mom had a nervous breakdown when I
was a kid and when that happened I had to turn from being a kid to being a
parent for my parent. I feel that’s what got me so focused and goal oriented. I
could go on and on about all the tough stories I had when I was a kid. Having
to grow up so fast, I mean I didn’t get as much as a childhood as other kids,
but there was times when I still got to be a kid. But I don’t regret it. It
made me grow up and mature and when I got out into the real world when I was on
my own when I turned 18 it made me more ready for it. I know people in their 30’s
still living at home with their parents. And it’s not a knock on them. Just to
be able to go through something like that makes you so strong…. It makes you
unbreakable to anything else that comes your way.

Question 10: What has pro
wrestling helped you learn about life?

Kekoa: It gives me purpose personally. I mean if I didn’t
have pro wrestling I’d be 400 pounds and I wouldn’t go to the gym. I’d probably
never leave my couch. I’d be playing Call of Duty or Guitar Hero all damn day
or watching Netflix all morning and night. Pro wrestling has taught me to be
responsible, how to be professional, and it’s taught me to better myself. To strive
for something and work towards that next goal. It’s such a business that
everyone puts down because it’s so hard, and it is hard, and I’m not taking
that away from it. But it’s such a maturing business that really grows people
over the years and I don’t think it gets the good credit it deserves. It’s not
just going out there and being a rock star in front of these people, it just
makes you a better person.

We would like to thank

more personal. That’s what this series was designed to do. Please take the time

ECWA Spring Battle III Results, New Extreme Rising Champion

ECWA Spring Battle III Results 3-1-14

1. Ricky Martinez defeats
Papadon via a Back Stabber-
This
match had huge implications for both men. Martinez going into the Super 8
Tournament and Papadon regaining his footing in his hunt for another title run.
Things started off badly when Martinez attacked Papadon as the show began with
a chair to the back. As things got underway, Martinez had the clear advantage
weakening Papadon’s injured back with bear hugs and suplexes. Taking his time
to slowly weaken the ‘Greek God’ was smart. Papadon could never mount much
offense as he tried time and time again to use his power game but to no avail.
Even his deadly ‘Wrath of God’ piledriver couldn’t be used as he hunched over
in pain. The end would come as Martinez took advantage of a distracted referee
to hit a low blow and then a devastating back stabber for the victory.

*ECWA heavyweight champion
Kekoa comes out and announces he has a torn ACL and had surgery just a few days
prior. Barring this, he has to vacate the ECWA title. A Fatal Four Way will
take place in June to determine a new champion. The participants to be decided
by a series of matches throughout the night. First entrant? Ricky Martinez
after his victory over Papadon.

2. Team CK defeats Azrieal
& Rob Vegas via Super Kick-Powerslam combo-
This match was personal. Team CK has been on one heck
of a tear since debuting in the ECWA attacking almost anyone who crosses their
path. Last month, they attacked Az and Vegas as they left the arena. Leading to
this match, Az and Vegas went on the offensive using a variety of high flying
kicks and tag team moves to try to keep the smaller Sean Carr of Team CK away
from the powerhouse Kage. It worked for awhile and the veteran Azrieal was
especially vicious with his trademark stomps and slams. The younger Vegas would
become a bit overzealous and try to take things in his own hands which played
into Team CK’s hands. Carr would tag in his partner and all hell broke loose!
All 4 men went at it back and forth, blow for blow. But in the end Team CK’s
resourcefulness came into play. Carr would hit his super kick on Rob Vegas into
the powerful running Powerslam by Kage for the pin fall.

3. Bobby Shields defeats
Little Mikey via the Body Bomb-
Shields
is hot off the presses of winning his Golden Opportunity contract just last
month and of course the cocky Little Mikey wanted to ruin the party. The match
started typical with neither man gaining much ground. Mikey takes the advantage
with his cowardice. By running from Shields it caused him to lose focus and
Mikey was smart to take advantage. Posing all the way, Mikey would hit various
power moves such as suplexes and slams to weaken Shields. But wrestling ‘True
Talent’ would not be denied… feeding off the energy of the crowd he stormed back!
A flurry of punches and kicks stunned Mikey as Bobby Shields would try to
finish him off quickly. And so he did, after some resistance, Shields would hit
the Body Bomb for the 1..2..3.

4. Heavyweight
Championship Determiner(whoever gets the pin gets in the match)- Breaker Morant
& Apollyon defeat Matt Saigon & Bolo Yung via Cutter Driver-
What a brutal match. The mysterious Bolo Yung would
start things off using his painful chops and kicks to immediately deflate
Breaker Morant. Yung looked extra vicious all the way through using martial
arts to stun the stronger Morant. Tagging quickly in and out, Saigon would also
seemingly lose it and just brutalize his former friend. It seemed Breaker just
couldn’t gain a footing. Willing his partner to fight back and with the support
of the crowd, Apollyon entered the match with pain on his mind! Hitting 2
stunning spinning heel kicks and clotheslines, the monster of a man looked to
be able to handle both men easily. Tagging back in, Breaker wanted to get him
some and so he did. All 4 men back and forth with Yung getting knocked out of
the ring. Apollyon chasing. Distracted by this, Saigon didn’t notice Morant
lying in wait behind him as Breaker Morant hit’s his cutter driver for the pin
fall win and a spot in the Heavyweight Title match in June.

5. Mark Harro defeats
Chris Wylde via DQ after Wylde attacks him with a chain-
In what many called the match of the night and early
favorite for match of the year Mark Harro and Chris Wylde fought… or should I
say went to war! A flurry of fast paced offense by both men shocked and awed
the crowd into a frenzy! Harro with a t-bone suplex and running knees and Wylde
hitting a cannonball and flying clotheslines. It looked to spill all over the
arena and both men laid their bodies on the line. Wylde hit one of the most
impressive moves ever in ECWA history by landing a DEVASTATING diving through
the ropes tornado DDT onto Harro on the floor! The crowd erupted! But the ‘Dragonfly’
wasn’t done yet as he unleashed his own impressive running shooting star press
for a near fall. That caused him to get very frustrated and go for the chain he
brought to the ring to hit Wylde. He missed and Wylde would return the favor
and get DQ-ed. Harro had to restrained by security and I doubt we’ve seen the
last of these men’s beef with each other.

6. Renee Michelle &
Phil Sly w/Sly’s lawyer defeat Jessie Kaye & John Finegan via a briefcase
shot to the head-
This match was
really a big question mark for fans and the people involved. Michelle and Kaye started
it off going back and forth with their hatred seeping through. Kaye had the
early advantage pumping up the crowd with her slams and clotheslines. But
Michelle is no pushover, fighting back with forearms to the face and a little
hair pulling along the way. Went things went bad enter Phil Sly and then John
Finegan who put on an impressive display of wrestling moves with Finegan
hitting a dropkick and deep arm drags to stun the fans and Sly. Closing in on
victory, Finegan seemed ready to take his team to the top but the wily Michelle
would distract the ref long enough for Sly’s lawyer to slip him his briefcase
which he would use to hit Finegan in the head with and gain the victory.

7. Meisure Ooh La La vs.
Napalm Bomb would turn into Napalm Bomb vs. Matt Saigon after Saigon attacks
Ooh La La from behind. Napalm Bomb w/ Joel Blackhart defeats Matt Saigon via a
roll-up to gain the next spot in the Heavyweight title match in June-
Obviously, Saigon was a man on a mission after first
losing last month’s chance for the Golden Opportunity Series and then the
earlier tag team match against Breaker Morant & Apollyon. But Napalm Bomb
was also on a mission and it didn’t include losing. Saigon was injured still
from earlier in the night and the Bomb took easy advantage. Saigon would get in
a flurry of offensive kicks with so much intensity. Weathering the storm,
Napalm Bomb waited for his chance to steal one and he did with a roll-up pin
that once again stunned Saigon.

8. D-Line defeats Legion
of Destruction( Ahtu & Solo) w/ Joel Blackhart via the football spear-
This match was exactly as advertised. Two teams with
power who hated each other. The LOD would try to power it’s way to victory
quickly as Ahtu went on the attack downing Black Ice of D-line. Solo would continue
the assault but the tag champions wouldn’t go quietly. Tagging in his partner,
the 6’7 Body snatcher matched power for power with the LOD, clearing the ring
with splashes and clotheslines. And it all came undone for the LOD once again!
Trying to fight back, Ahtu would go after both men… which was the mistake the
tag champs needed as he was quickly thrown from the ring. Getting to his feet,
Solo turns to get hit with the big football tackle spear for the 1..2…3

9. EXTREME RISING
HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Luke Hawx defeats Stevie Richards to become the NEW
Extreme Rising champion via a blockbuster off the top rope-
In a stunning development the day before, indy
promotion Extreme Rising’s show was cancelled. So they decided to work together
with ECWA and give fans of both companies a show! The obvious respect Hawx and
Richards had for each other was quickly erased as Hawx disrespected Richards
with slaps to the face. And the vet Richards would have known of that quickly
flying around the ring with kicks and a powerful sidewalk slam. Seemingly
trying to make quick work of the younger Hawx, Stevie would slam him repeatedly
into the turnbuckle followed by big clotheslines. Setting up for his patented
Stevie Kick it seemed done early. But Luke Hawx showed his toughness
immediately using his power to shock Richards. Suplexes, slams, near falls
followed as the champion battled back from near defeat time and time again.
Hawx would go for a move not seen before in ECWA as he climbed onto the middle
of the ring ropes and did a springboard moonsault… but NO! Richards blocks with
the knees and BOOM.. Stevie Kick for the 1…2… Kick out. Setting up for
another kick, shockingly Papadon would run into the ring and try to assault
Richards. Even though he fought it off, that distraction was all Hawx needed.
As Richards turned to face Hawx, he was hit a diving blockbuster off the top
rope to crown a new champion.

10. 15 man Over the Top
Rope Battle Royal to determine the last spot in the Super 8 Tournament- winner
and number 8 in the Super 8 field…. MATT SAIGON-
This was really anyone’s game as all 15 men quickly
went after the stronger opponents like Ahtu and Apollyon. Tag teams worked
together like Az & Vegas and Team CK but that strategy did not work on this
night. Man after man was throw out while the intense Matt Saigon took quite the
beating with his visibly badly taped knee. He was so much an afterthought he
was thrown through the middle rope onto the floor to deal with later. But that
was a dumb move on everyone else’s part. Apollyon and Breaker Morant would
clean house to seemingly start a war between friends but as Apollyon started to
throw Morant out of the ring Saigon, quietly biding his time, would slip back
into the ring and throw both men over the top rope to become the last man in
the field of 8 in next month’s Super 8 Tournament!

Final Spot in 18th Annual ECWA Super 8 Tournament Announced

Final Spot in the ECWA Super 8 goes to a familiar face

Few things in independent wrestling are more storied or
important than the annual East Coast Wrestling Association Super 8 Tournament.
The eight tournament is single elimination and is in year 18 of showcasing the
top young stars in today’s independent scene. A list of past participants reads
like a who’s who of notable wrestling stars such as WWE’s Daniel Bryan,
Christian, the Hardy Boys, Xavier Woods, Austin Aries, and Christopher Daniels.
Over the years thousands of fans have came to witness the next phase of history
and who will become the next breakout performer. This year is no different than
any other year… the field of eight are being planned… and the first 2 entrants
have been announced. We also will have a special guest host this year… last
year’s Super 8 winner Damian Dragon who has since retired from the wrestling
business.

The tournaments unique hard hitting fast paced style lead
to the creation of Ring of Honor and has also lead to dozens of copy cat
tournaments looking to bottle up the lightning that was created back in 1997.
But there is only one original tournament that showcases wrestlers that are
upcoming and the next break out star who could be on a television screen near
you very soon. To this day, to get an invitation is considered a high honor and
a signification of pure talent.

On Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Greater Newark Boys
& Girls Club in Newark, Delaware the fans will witness the greatest
happening in indy professional wrestling! Here’s a look at the man selected to
be in the eighth and final spot in the 2014 ECWA Super 8 Tournament after he
won an Over the Top Rope Battle Royale on Saturday March 1, 2014 at ECWA’s
event ‘Spring Battle III’:

‘Vietnam Phenom’ Matt Saigon

Saigon is quite possibly
the most popular member of the Super 8 field this year even with his attitude
change over the last year or so. He looks to use his impressive power to ground
his much faster and high fleering counterparts. Formerly a 3 time ECWA tag team
champion with friend and mentor (also last year’s Super 8 champion) Damian
Dragon as Fusion DS, Saigon learned a great deal what it takes to be a champion
whether they were cheered or booed. Not just an ECWA exclusive, Matt Saigon
also has wrestled for places like Force One, TWA, World Extreme Wrestling,
Fighting Spirit Wrestling, and most notably at Ring of Honor. Saigon’s a hard
hitting, hard kicking powerhouse that can fly around the ring with the best of
them. He excels at technical wrestling as well and has no problem weakening his
opponents limb by limb. However, his short temper and overzealous nature have
cost him many times before and one has to think if it will short circuit his
run to the Super 8 trophy this year. In front of the ECWA faithful and his
friend Damian Dragon, who is this year’s host, can the ‘Vietnam Phenom’ put his
anger aside and destroy his way all the way to history? We’ll have to wait and
see but one things for certain… he brings no shortage of his trademark
intensity and we’re in for a quite a show from this man.

Matt Saigon looks to power his way to victory in the ECWA
arena come April 5! If you’re a fan of independent wrestling you won’t want to
miss this amazing night. Don’t miss independent wrestling history in the
making!

So Saturday April 5, 2014.… it’s year 18 of the annual
ECWA Super 8 Tournament. The field is chosen…. The competitors are ready to
chase down their destiny…. And indy fans will be in for a show unlike any other
in the world today. Come see why this amazing tournament is so highly regarded
and why ECWA has produced more well known stars of wrestling than ANY OTHER
PLACE ON THE PLANET!
