In July 1999, I went to my very first ECWA show at St Matthews Parish Hall in Wilmington, Delaware. I was shooting photographs for PWI and WOW magazine. The VERY first wrestler I met there and the first one I had pose for me was none other than Mr. Ooh La La!
Ooh La La actually started in ECWA in 1990. So for 20+ years the bumbling Frenchman has been entertaining PRO WRESTLING fans one Saturday a month for many years in the state of Delaware. Ooh La La has been in many memorable battles and maybe even more memorable MOMENTS w/ Cheetah Master, Boogie Woogie Brown, Low Ki, George the Animal Steele, Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young, Kid America, Shockwave the Robot, Cole Callaway and on several occassions even the BACK DOOR of the Boys & Girls Club!!!
From his trademark trip up the ringside steps to his striptease to having difficult taking off his purple pants and having them pulled from under his foot by the referee and falling to chants of Barney!!!! Mr. Ooh La La has endeared himself to countless ECWA fans. One moment I recall where I was truly enlightened to the genius of Mr. Ooh La La was at a TWA match in Voorhees, NJ vs. Shockwave the Robot for the very first time. I sat in the crowd as I sometimes do to take in and experience the reaction of the fans. As I looked around I saw kids and “kids at heart” smiling, laughing, chuckling and enjoying pro wrestling like I did when I was a kid. I could probably name 5 highlights in my 2 and 1/2 years of putting together wrestling shows and this def was one of them.
Beneath the persona is a true professional, a model member of the roster, a team player, a dedicated, hard worker, a good natured man who above all else is humble and universally liked by everyone!!! Well, except one person … ECWA owner Michael Tartaglia!!!
Ooh La La has raised the ire of Mike by eliminating him in the 2012 ECWA Super 8 Battle Royal on Apr 7, 2012 for the title shot of his choice. I have been “friends” with Mike for 20 years. Sometimes we fight, sometimes we “tolerate” each other.
But understand this, ECWA was MY home before Mike even knew what ECWA was. And Mr. Ooh La La was cementing his legend in ECWA long before Mike ever stepped foot in Delaware! If you know me, you know I am honest and a man of my word. Mr. Ooh La La WILL get the title shot of his choice and I WILL ask him along with his trusted confidant Coach Jim Shorts personally on Sat, May 5th in Newark, Delaware at “Divide & Conquer!”
TRUST ME, if you are a fan of Mr. Ooh La La you DO NOT want to miss this!!!

Mr. Ooh La La from July 1999
ECWA owner Michael Tartaglia thought he had pulled a fast one over on everyone, buying his way into winning the 16th Annual ECWA SUPER 8 Tournament- Saturday, April 7, 2012. big Rumble match up...only he miscalculated-there was one more ECWA superstar, Meisure Oohlala, aka Mr. Ooh La La, who would go on to eliminate Tartaglia to be declared the winner.
Mr. Ooh La La earns a title shot by winning the 2012 ECWA Super 8 Battle Royal on Apr 7th!
May 5th is the culmination of an 8 month quest for “Heart Killer” Chris Wylde at ECWA “Divide & Conquer” in Newark, Delaware!
In Oct 2011, the masked Blackheart ( Breaker Morant) broke into the Boys & Girls Club side entrance and attacked Bazooka Joe and sent him to the ER! But Bazooka Joe was not the real target as revealed in a cryptic Blackheart video message, it was Chris Wylde. Blackheart swore to destroy the ECWA and would do so by going right after the heart of the ECWA, Chris Wylde.
In Nov 2011, Blackheart struck again, but this time he was not alone as 2 other masked men joined in and literally laid out the entire ECWA locker room w/ baseball bats. Blackheart revealed themselves to be the TWA and self-proclaimed REAL Heavyweight Champion Breaker Morant, Josh Daniels, Bobby Shields and TWA founder and Commissioner Joel Goodhart. The quartet was angry that TWA was neglected for ECWA and demanded ECWA contracts which they were given under duress as they held ring crew captain Sonny Leech captive and threatened to severely harm him. After a wild tag team match and then another wild six man anything goes match, Blackheart are now signed to compete in separate matches.
Chris Wylde gets his chance for revenge w/ Blackheart ringleader and team captain Breaker Morant. ECWA fans will recognize that Chris Wylde has a tremendous win-loss record in ECWA, but always seems to lose the “big ones.” Since Sept 2010, Wylde has only 3 losses in ECWA to Tommaso Ciampa, Papadon and Kekoa. Can Wylde avenge ECWA and strike Breaker Morant where it hurts most, his beloved TWA Heavyweight Championship? Or will Blackheart continue its reign of terror in the ECWA?
You have to be there for this one, Chris Wylde is going to need the ENTIRE ECWA family in his corner!

(04/07/12)
Newark,Delaware, April 7, 2012–“The Greek God” Papadon made East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) history at the 16th annual ECWA Super 8 tournament tonight, pinning TNA star Anthony Nese, Bobby Fish, and Bandido Jr in one evening to become the first man to walk into – and win – the tournament as ECWA Heavyweight Champion.
Previously, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels won Super 8 as champion, but only after winning the title during the course of the tournament. “I’m honored, but not surprised,” smiled the man once so hated – but tonight cheered – by the ECWA faithful. “I did exactly as I said … and KNEW I would. Now I only hope the wrestling world was taking notice, as they have so many times in the past.”
The road was a difficult one for The Greek God, who had to defeat one of TNA’s fastest-rising X division stars, in Nese, in the first round.
Round One – Papadon vs. Anthony Nese Papadon’s first-round match against TNA star Anthony Nese was a very hard-fought battle, and one that did not leave him unaffected. After sustaining a series of brutal suplexes, kneelifts, and a punishing 450 Splash from the top rope, Papadon was able to catch his fellow New Yorker off-guard, quickly pinning him after a running European-style dropkick in just over 11 minutes. For the big TNA television star, the night was already over. For Papadon, however, a long and dificult journey was only just beginning. It was now on to the second round, where Papadon would be forced to contend with the internationally savvy Bobby Fish.
Round Two – Papadon vs. Bobby Fish No handshakes, and apparently no respect by Fish, who rejected an attempted show of respect by the usually hated champ, just prior to punishing him with suplexes and a springboard moonsault off the apron. In the end, it was another running dropkick’ this time to the back of Fish’s head at the 15 minute mark that was enough to bring this match to an end, and to propel Papadon into the finals.
Unfortunately for Papadon, the final round of the Super 8 tournament presented its own set of challenges, in the form of luchadore Bandido Jr, brandishing traditional lucha mask in honor of his father at ringside.
Round Three – Papadon vs. Bandido Jr With Bandido Sr watching on from his ringside seat, Bandido Jr turned in the fight of his life against Papadon, punishing him with aerial maneuver after aerial maneuver before he fell victim to a Papadon piledriver. With trophy standing beside the very proud Greek God, Papadon could do little but gleam as he looked back on the milestone he had just achieved. After holding both the Super 8 trophy AND ECWA Heavyweight title high above his head as the standing crowd and all of his tournament peers looked on, Papadon grabbed the microphone and exclaimed, “For years, I’ve wanted this tournament so bad. It’s such a great pleasure, the fans are some of the greatest and most loyal fans in independent wrestling today. Thank you so much to all of you who helped make this possible for me.”
In other opening round tournament matches, Bamdido Jr pinned his tag partner Azrieal, Gregory Iron defeated Kyle Matthews and Bobby Fish forced Kekoa The Flyin Hawaiian to submit to a leglock submission, after working over his knee for more than 10 minutes. One additional second-round matchup saw Bandido taken to the limit by Gregory Iron, only to come out on top in the end.
In addition, longtime ECWA veteran – and perrenial underdog – Mr. Ooh La La shocked most of his fellow locker-room mates and fans by winnng a Royal Rumble-style invitational battle royal, last eliminating the owner of the ECWA, Mike Tartaglia. Ooh La La, who emerged from the backstage as the #3 entrant, immediately fainted when left alone in the ring with both members of The Nigerian Nightmares. After being revived, he would later slide under the bottom rope to come to the aid of his manager, “Coach” Jim Shorts, who was injured when Ooh La La bumped into him and knocked him out of the ring after being intimidated by AHTU. During that time, the match was seemingly won by newcomer Mustafa Aziz, at which time Tartaglia emerged from the back and paid him to eliminate himself from the match. In his arrogance, Tartaglia totally forgot about Ooh La La, who was still at ringside and was able to sweep in to toss the former Hitman over the top rope, and earn a shot for hmself at any title in the ECWA, on any date of his choosing.
In other action, reigning ECWA Tag Champions The Midnight Sensations successfully retained their titles with a big Triple-Threat match win over former champions The Flatliners and Fusion-DS. With Fusion, The Sensations, and Flatliner Burns laid out outside the ring after a Burns suicide dive, Asylum found himself the victim of a brutal assault by the massive Nigerian Nightmares, as the crowd watched on in horror. Never ones to let bygones be bygones, Asylum and Burns would make an appearance later in the night during the Invitational Battle Royal, to return the fight back to The Nightmares and get some vengeance, costing them the match.

I can’t wait for this year’s East Coast Wrestling Association SUPER 8 TOURNAMENT! This year is the 16th Annual edition. It is the oldest, most recognized and most covered tournament of its kind. It has served as a platform to many future stars. But to clarify, the Super 8 is not about Joe Zanolle or Mike Tartaglia or founder Jim Kettner or the ECWA itself. It is about 8 professional wrestlers looking to prove they are the best of the best. Looking to prove that professional wrestling is still alive, that there are new stars waiting to break through, that there are new stars ready and able to have the torch passed to them and to help carry on the tradition of this business into the future and beyond. This year’s participants “Greek God” Papadon, Kekoa the Flyin Hawaiian, Bobby Fish, AMAZING RED, Azrieal, Gregory Iron, Kyle Matthews and Bandido Jr all have different levels of experience and exposure and all bring their unique talents and skills to the table this year. Amazing Red informed ECWA matchmaker Joe Zanolle on Saturday, March 31st that he would be unable to attend and compete in the 16th Annual Super 8 on April 7th, citing a family emergency he needed to tend to. ECWA sends Red and his family best wishes.

Nese has been a standout at New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC), ROH, EVOLVE, DG-USA and many other Northeast independents!

Having said that, the Super 8 is not about one person, but rather a spirit, an ideal of giving exposure and a platform to a new generation of performers and giving the fans the very best wrestling today.”
“Tony Nese is a great fit for the tournament and we are lucky to have him. Nese knows all about the Super 8, having competed in the 2008 edition, and jumped at the chance to win the trophy that eluded him 4 years ago.”
“ECWA fans were recently treated to a great match on March 3rd in Newark, Delaware as Nese took on Alex Reynolds,” Zanolle continued. “Many of our fans loved Nese and requested his return.
