ECWA Invasion Grows Stronger Heading into Super 8
by Brady Hicks
March 3, 2012, Newark, Delaware–The East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA) had its own beating heart ripped out tonight, when ECWA owner Mike Tartaglia joined up with Joel “Blackhart” Goodhart and his Black Heart invaders only minutes after the group won an important battle over Team ECWA, leaving them all laid out just one month before the eyes of the wrestling world fall upon it for the 2012 ECWA Super 8 tournament.
Ironically, Team Black Heart relied on more than just Tartaglia to pick up the win.
Instead, it was a monster of a man now known as Mustafa Aziz who interfered in the contests closing minutes, laying out ECWA’s resident monster – AHTU – who is usually more accustomed to laying out opponents himself. This interference by the man who refers to himself as “The Chosen One” allowed Breaker Morant, “Beautiful” Bobby “The Body” Shields, and “The True Professional” Josh Daniels to win the match over AHTU, “Heart Killer” Chris Wylde, and Kekoa The Flyin Hawaiian.
What does the future hold for the ECWA as it attempts to fend off the invaders from its former sister promotion, The Tri-State Wrestling Alliance … AND it‘s own owner? Only time will tell. ECWA, however, would be wise to sit up and take notice as more and more insurgents seem to come out of the woodwork every month.
Meanwhile, in other action, the disgruntled Fusion-DS team got a measure of revenge against their longtime rivals – and K-Cup tournament winners – The Midnight Sensations, taking back the ECWA tag titles they lost back in November at K-Cup. The win was a controversial one, considering The Sensations went immediately to ECWA official Joe Zanolle, at ringside, complaining that they had made a tag and the legal man was not pinned.
Regardless of the dubious nature of Referee Mike Kehner’s decision (and all referee decisions are FINAL), Fusion-DS were more-than-happy to gloat. “We’ve been saying for months that we were the better team,” smirked Damian Dragon. “But nobody would listen. Not the followers at ringside, those idiots we were in the ring with, nor the matchmakers. Nobody believed us. But tonight we showed them.”
Fortunately for ANOTHER ECWA champion – Heavyweight Champion Papadon – the night ended on a much better note, with another thrilling, 30+ minute defense, heading into his attempt at winning the 2012 ECWA Super 8 tournament, April 7th in Newark.
“For me, it was just another night at the office,” said Papadon, sitting in the back with a towel over his head.” And when I have another night at the office NEXT MONTH in Delaware, I’ll have the Super 8 trophy in my possession as well.”
While hiss challenger #1 Johnny Silver came out on the losing end on this night (despite some assistance from his Slophunters tag partner Alex Reynolds, who prevented Papadon from hitting Silver with the ECWA belt when referee John Finegan was knocked out), his partner Reynolds actually had a fantastic outing against TNA’s own Anthony Nese, who made his return to the ECWA for the first time since competing in the 2008 Super 8 as Maverick, defeating him in a 17 minute battle.
In addition, ECWA proudly showcased the North American debut of Shazza McKenzie, an up-and-coming Australian wrestler many feel will soon be ranked among the top women’s wrestlers in the world. McKenzie looked amazing in her defeat of Kylie Pierce, an independent wrestling star already familiar with the ECWA ring after battling Veda Scott last year.
In other action on the show, “The Sensei” Paul Lopresti defeated Mr. Ooh La La w/ Coach Jim Shorts in an impromptu wrestling match, after their Martial Arts Exhibition broke down into a fight, Corey Blaze continued to make enemies of his former fans and allies when he defeated a debuting Kid U-S-A, the young protégé of Blaze’s former partner Kid America, and featured 2012 Super 8 competitors Bandido Jr. and Azrieal made short work of The Magnum Modeling Agency’s Danny E and Ricky “The Model” Martinez w/ Gus Grand.
Complete results were as follows:
